Dealer won't take order...
My local dealer (small dealership) will not accept an order for the MY10 GT3. As far as they are concerned the announcement of the new GT3 is simply hype from Porsche marketing in order to stir up demand. According to the dealer, PCNA have not released any delivery/release/allocation info about the car at all. On that basis the dealer will not accept an order.
How much of the above is correct? As I'm considering getting one, I'm also interested to know if allocations have already been decided.

Sounds about right except for the hype part. They haven't announced allocations yet, and some dealers aren't taking deposits until they know their allocation. I'm sure you could find a dealer somewhere to take your money for a deposit, but that won't guarantee you a car at this point.

Car has been officially announced to dealers by PCNA and details are posted on their internal website (PPN)
Allocations have not been decided or announced.
It is too early to place an order as there are no allocations or order guides.
Not too early to get on a list.
Suggest you speak to the GM
Question: Did your dealer get any MY07/08 GT3's.
Remember many salespeople are way out of the loop, don't know squat, and flap their gums

Thank you all for the info. Based on your comments, I think the dealer is being fairly honest with me.
I'm first on the list. AFAIK, the dealer got a couple of 07/08 GT3's and one RS.
The dealership is small and offers great and very personalized service. They were bold to open in a small city and have been just great to deal with. Especially in this economy I feel a strong degree of loyally towards them and would like to give them my custom. So moving to another dealer would be a last resort.

Kudos to you and it sounds like you have a great Dealer. It is usually the Management (change?) that screws up relationships like that. Staying local has many benefits, especially when it comes to getting the GT(X) cars.

I've been very loyal to my dealer for 15+ years and have built strong relationships, and they have always treated me as good as anyone could ever ask.
Having said that, any guesses on how they would price a GT3 order in this economy? I know I would get a great deal, but if they can sell it for $20K over MSRP of course they are not going to sell it to me at a discount or at MSRP. ("great deal" is always relative to what the market is at the time.) CJ?

I've bought a GT3 from one out of state (not texas) dealership and my RS from another out of state (different non texas) both for msrp. I have been hosed by one local dealer and will not set foot there again.

I've been on the new 997.2/991.1 list for 3+ years, and am first in line -- this after being screwed last time around whilst having spend 250K in two years from the same dealer for other vehicles (and despite acquiring an '08 GT3 anyway). Perhaps it's the dealer. Not that 99% of 'em are any good.

If you're talking about the Chattanooga dealer, they did get 2 2007 GT3's (White & a Silver) & 1 2007 GT3RS (Orange). Originally they were only supposed to get 1 2007 GT3 & no RS. They didn't get any GT3/RS for 2008.
