For those that installed a light weight fly wheel on a 997 GT3 - did you have the dealer re-flash the ecu to the RS spec?

supposedly idle is the only difference. is your idle erratic?

My car seems to idle well now as it did prior to the installation of the LWFW. I didn't do the RS pulley either. maybe I should do that as well?

it is my understanding that the cpu will "learn" and adjust for the lwfw...you also might want to see the thread on a recent service bulletin from PMNA regarding voiding warranty if you put RS lwfw in a 997 GT3...that really sucks...but I understand it since the rotating mass is balanced to a dual mass flywheel and a lwfw will upset balance of rotating mass...this is especially interesting since many lwfw were installed by dealers during rms replacement and no indication was given that it would void your warranty...

Sad to say dealerships/pag want to protect themselves from ne liability if something goes wrong with the car. Netime u have to remove the engine/tranny there runs a risk of something happening. One loose bolt can do a world of damage. Mike

i paid just a little $ for labor for the pulley and software as it wasn't part of the rms work.

I wonder how you got the RS flash, if so that Dealer is in a world of hurt if a problem arises. It is hard to fathom a Dealer, thinking so much of a customer, to raise the ire of Porsche.

How do you know you got the RS flash? If you got it, which customer's VIN did they enter into the system?

i don't know. that's what i recall from a conversation with the SM. i just rechecked the workorder printout. it just says "remap dme control unit". so i guess it may not be "RS flash" but just a tweak to compensate for the lwfw.

Far as I know, I didn't get the flash. I'm mostly pleased with how much better the engine gains/loses revs.

Information: Replacing dual-mass flywheel with single-mass flywheel.
We have discovered that the dual-mass flywheel, which is installed as standard in the GT3 engine (vehicle type 997810/-811), is being replaced in the dealer organization with the single-mass flywheel from the GT3 RS engine (vehicle type 997850/-851).

Information

Due to an increasing number of reported faults, we expressly wish to point out that the installation of the single-mass flywheel (from the GT3 RS) in the GT3 engine is not approved by Porsche.

Since the 911 GT3 (997) engine application is designed for the dual-mass flywheel, conversion to the single-mass flywheel results in the following problems and consequences:

• The single-mass flywheel causes fluctuations and vibration in the lower rpm range, thereby reducing the smooth-running performance of the engine.

• The crankshaft is subjected to one-sided loading, causing stress peaks that can result in damage to the crankshaft.

• The one-sided loading of the crankshaft can cause the pulley to come loose, resulting in damage to the belt drive and engine.

• Any damage relating to conversion or damage that can be attributed to conversion is not covered under warranty.

Please advise your customers of this information accordingly.
