I ran the 996 GT3 without problems, and both the 996 and 997 GT3 use the same airbox design. The only difference is the intake scoops that 6RS, 7GT3 and 7RS have, but 6GT3 doesn't.
stock RS or 7gt3 is about 95dB or more when they measure it at LS. (with sport button off)
with turn down pipe and foam in air box, i got 92.6dB.

this is very consistent, i have NEVER seen stock cars pass sound, unless the flaps are wired close permanently.
i heard a car from so cal that passed sound with just turn down pipe. i think the driver is not really at WOT in 3rd gear. there is no way in hell you can pass sound in 3rd up the hill WOT and on the fast line. if you move way track left, perhaps.

Rad sound resonates out of the large throttle body of the GT3's and that soundis not directed away from the meter. Taping or securing foam under all the openings of the deck lid and around the air box is very effective at reducing the decibel level at Laguna.

Another consideration is the weather. If it's foggy morning I don't waste my time trying to go out until the fog lifts. Sound bounces off the pavement up against the heavy morning fog and back down to the meters. Too many people have these turn down tips which just bounce the sound off the pavement. Try using zoomies (elbows) and direct the exhaust away from the meters....

If you need to use foam to dampen intake noise, then fuel cell safety foam works well. Just cut a piece to fit into your air filter box, and it will drop your noise by about 2 db at Laguna Seca on an 997 GT3.

big and heavy! but i'd rather stick around the whole day tracking than be sent packing early in the gt3. i'll check you guys' setup there and see how you're able to get around it as i'm not really clear how you guys stuff these foams/pipes, etc... to drop the sound within limit.

So, stock exhaust + AWE turn downs + foam. What else?

i had all above, failed sound.
so i short shift after T5 and move track left (the correct line would be track right and the sound station is of course on the right). then i pass sound.

you can rig the vacuum flaps to remain shut all the time (the open at 4k rpm i think) then you are ok.
