This is why for my first dozen or so track days I only did Thill. Then I thought, what the heck and took my Subie to Laguna. It was raining. I thought great, my first rain day at a track I've never driven before. It turned out to be a blast. IMHO there's lots of runoff most places you might need it. I was surprised, it looks very different and open when you're on the track compared to spectating.

there are walls at LS.
but if you drive enough at infineon, then LS is as wide open as TH or BW.
at T10 infineon, you are about 10" away from the wall to your driver's mirror. most really fast guys in SM may even leave paint on the wall!

lets get a run down of LS off zones...
T1- pretty easy to stay on track.
T2- if you go off- you spin into the kitty litter and get stuck at worst.
T3- early apex = uh oh. possible contact towards the walls on T3-T4 straight on both sides (oversteer)
T4- more danger of hitting inside wall because of a really sloppy lift and then poor correction, then poor brake application- spinning off on the outside = kitty litter.
T5- if you miss your brakes by a mile, you would go straight off and get close to tire wall
T6- you would really have to go in hot to hit the tires on the outer area, but if you semi-catch it and F-up by lifting too much and hitting the inside wall.
corkscrew- go in slow if you're scared!
T9- stay steady on the throttle and you stay on track- wall is close- kitty litter might not help.
T10- brake early and don't track out too far or you might lose grip as the track out kerb- kitty litter.
T11- if you're super early on the throttle or mega late on brakes, you slide into the kitty litter.

pattern is- get your braking done early so you don't have to balance too many inputs on the sketchier sections...from 5/10ths to 8.5/10ths this would be generally a good more.
from 9/10ths and up, you need to do a lot more work!

What's the whole deal about stuffing foam in the airbox? Will a quiet exhaust still trigger the sound meter?
I ran the 996 GT3 without problems, and both the 996 and 997 GT3 use the same airbox design. The only difference is the intake scoops that 6RS, 7GT3 and 7RS have, but 6GT3 doesn't.

on a 90 db day even a stock 996 GT3 will set off the sound meter winding it up in third toward turn 6 (usually where sound station is)...you can guess how I know...so sound deadening material in the airbox can make a difference...fortunately most days at Laguna are 92db days and I've never had a problem with the stock setup...the RS and 997 GT3's do have more intake sound and could need some deadening even on a 92db day...
