Default Anyone want black gauges...

have 997 gt3 with 3.5K. Really want white or silver gauge faces. Seems the easiest thing is to swap clusters and have dealer reprogram to actual milage. Any suggestions. FVD only has in km/hr, and doubt they say "GT3".

A buddy was here from the old country and he told me standard practice in Europe also, call a cell phone number (They advertise in the paper!) pay cash, bring car in for 5K service that is actually 20K, so the passport and warranty stays "OK" he knows guys doing it and the dealers can't tell. Never seen anything like it in the US, but from Europe I know it can not be difficult to reflash the Km and so miles.

Never mind plenty of bad dealers doing it themselves...

odo readout may well be stored on Motronic ECU and not the gauge cluster, just as the cluster takes its speedo, trip computer, and more from the ECU and/or PCM/radio.

I understand it is no problem to have a dealer swap out clusters (if, say, you don't like the bright red Tequipment gauges in your 996 or 997) and get the mileage correct.

As for funny business, well...

It's easy to reset the odometers but the actual mileage/ driving habits at any given time is recorded in the ECU. Of course you need a tool to read the data.
Cost you a lot if you get caught both in the US and Europe.

Yes have the dealer change the faces. probably the easiest way for you to do it.
PLUS you can order and get exactly the color you want with out the hassle of finding someone
who wants to trade for black gauges (have never seen anyone request black)
