The clutch on the GT3 is a pain in stop and go traffic. Now that I have sold my GT3 and bought my auto tranny AMG, I am convinced the 997S with all the options would be the best way to go for a DD, usless I was a hard core tracker. I love the GT3s but untill I get my back fixed I will go for a more supple ride.
The AMG is even stiff for my back but there is no clutch!!

I think you'll get used to the clutch in the GT3 quickly; it's stiff at first but I like it.

It has about the same effort as the clutch in my '91 928GT. All the other control inputs in the 928 are higher than the GT3 though so you a have to pay attention to drive it smoothly. I find the GT3 much easier to drive at a fast clip. YMMV.

I have put a little over 3,000 miles on my car in Europe within 6 months of pick-up from the factory. I now live 3,244 miles from where my car is parked so I only drive it about 2-3 weeks a year and track it maybe once in that timeframe -it is stored most of the time. No RMS issues and I drive it whenever/wherever I can. If you can live with the limited front ground clearance, it makes for a great daily driver.

DE's, Barber and Road Atlanta.
Cruising, I live 45 minutes from the Tail of the Dragon and Cherahola Parkway.
And occasional milk run when I need a quick fix.
I have went thru a few porsches, but this one is my keeper.

First Porsche.
900-1000 miles a month, almost every day, about 1/3 of the miles on the track as fast as I dare to go.

The GT3 is the only car I drive and I no longer see any reason to drive any of my other cars, selling everything except the wife's car.

1st RMS at 1275 miles (previous owner) 8000 miles now so far so good.
Just pretend not to hear the front lip scrape and enjoy it.

As has been mentioned - try a search of this forum and / or just read through a few pages of post titles and you'll see this exact question asked about 100 times. You'll get all sorts of perspectives.

GT3 is great on the track, not great on the street (though some will disagree). I had both a 997S and now a GT3 and the S is a fantastic street car that's also extremely potent on the track (1:02 at Lime Rock, 2:16 at Watkins Glen bone stock).

The new S that's available now is even better. Updated PASM shock system with -10mm ride height and LSD. Get yourself the GT2 seats, fire extinguisher, and the sport PASM and that's all you need to have a hugely capable street / track car.

Drive it daily, plus 40+ track days a year. Over 24k miles now. No RMS yet.....

I am sad to report only 2,500 miles in the first year (two track days). Northern NJ is not NM, and my comute is only two miles to the train station. I would drive it every day if I could, but it seems silly to take it out ofr a two mile drive?

If you are determined, the GT3 is a streetable car for frequent use. Yes the clutch is a PITA in traffic. Yes the noise and generally heaviness of controls makes it a handful, but manageable if that's what you want.

In spite of some comments, you cannot drive it more than about 8/10's on public roads without great risk to yourself and others (even then,it's dicey). Comments about going 10/10's on public roads actually mean, 10/10's of one ability. You need a track to see it at its best. The open road, any road presents limitations that a track will not.

LOL, 8/10. you have bigger ***** than i do.
here in SF. i drive about .05/10, usually at .75/10 you lose lip spoiler and at 1/10, you dent your wheels.... cheers.

find a nice road, just go cruise, anywhere. it's fun. maybe not a DD, but drive it as much as you can. dont just park it.

Oh I quite agree!

I was being charitable.

The truth is that these cars have so much more ability than can be exploited on any public road. All one need do is ride with a good driver on the track to understand...

Mine is a 996 but it does have 58,000 miles on it. Lots of DD. Great car. I did have one front seal leak but that is it. There are things one needs to do differently as a dd but for me it was well worth it. As far as 10/10 on the road you will end up dead or in jail. I do not know anybody stupid enough to try to drive like that. As for that very few do it on the track.
