The 997 Cup Car gear box is available for the 997 GT3.
Just curious if any GT3 owners have installed this mod?
Thanks.

Clutch travel is about an inch and must be dramatically slipped to get going. One trip in rush hour and it would be toast (not even one trip). LWFW and 5" triple plate are not conducive to street driving.

I think we are not talking about the same thing. I went for a ride in a GT3 today with the Cup Car gear box. The clutch, pressure plate, assembly, etc were not from the Cup Car. ONLY the gear box and gear ratio's were changed
Very close gears. Outstanding power band. The only downside I saw was a higher RPM at highway speeds: 3100 RPM @ 65 MPH. Driveability was terrific.

Yea you just rode in a car with the cup gear ratios. The GT3 was made such that the tranny could easily (relatively) have the gearsets changed for different tracks

997 is a dog box sequential. 996cup is basically the same tranny as a 996/7 gt3. The gear ratios in the street cars are pretty close to a cup but with a taller ring and pinion. Relatively easy to change on the street car.

Not so easy to change the gear box, I'm told. The 997 GT3 is basically the same car as the 997 GT3 Cup Car. The gear box is interchangeable, but from what I understand, the Cup Car gears are already pre set. They're lower and a lot closer. You don't have the top end, but then, I've never driven 190 MPH anyway.
Basically, you'll be in 6th (instead of 5th) on the back straight of the Glen.
Does anyone have first hand knowledge with this set up?

i suppose you can replace the entire box with cup car but $$$
you can get a 4.0 R&P.
you can open your box, and regear 3-5th and move 5th to 6th
you can open your box, regear and use 4.0 R&P
or you can regear even 1 and 2, but to do that, it's $$$. unless it's a race car in which you have different gearing for each track, you are still compromising the rpm drops, depending on which track you are on.
