Some of the roads out here are harder on brakes than the track, and that is NOT driving recklessly. Fun, but fast pace faded 996 GT3 "steel" brakes on our loop, while the 996 GT2s along for the trip had zero fade.

Hey Old Guy,

so sorry that you had to let the GT3 go... You're doing it for the right reasons and this is commendable... Some of your fellow rennlisters have given you some very sound advise in regards to the back to hopefully reduce your need for pain releivers... I have a number of customers on Lyrica and when dosed correctly it gives many of them great results. Regardless, just explore all your options.... I sincerely hope you sort out the back issue and can get back to doing those things you enjoy most....

Spewing that you're so far away as I would have loved to have taken it off your hands. Its pretty much s I would have speced it and $100k cheaper. GT Silver is one of my favourite colors and a strong contender for when its time to specify my car. Two problems however; (i) I'm 12000 km away and (ii) we are a bit backwards here in oz and drive right hand drives

Sorry to see it go Paul, might consider a base 997 as some have suggested, really good cars. I actually had a caymen for a couple of days as a loaner, it was a fun driver.
No Paul, I can take your intestines out and put 'em back, but back surgery I can't do.
Jack, all the best, the nsg's at Duke are the best in the biz.

I test drove a new M3 The other weekend, bang for the buck it is absolutely amazing. The idea you can get a fully loaded car, with every option for ~70k... and take it on the track, puts the premium for a 911 in question. (Would upgrade the brakes before track time)

With that said its not a Porsche. I didnt find it as fun in the twisties, but was a much better cruiser. Hope you feel better, the pain must be excruciating if you have to give up your GT3... Ross

wish I had backroads like that around here

so, OG, how much more did the AMG 6.3 cost? new or used? I think you can probably pick them up fairly reasonablly used. good brakes, but very nose heavy handling.

You could argue that the Nordschleife is a (one way) street ...

I agree on the street BMW anchors are sufficient ... but border on the dangerous on the track

Paul I have been gone for a few days and sorry to read about you selling your 3. I have enjoyed your posts so I hope you continue to add to the forum. You are one of us now and no turning back. I understand how selling the car is considered a loss. I was at the track the last few days and agreed to let a close friend drive my car. No problem I trusted his talent, just a vary close personal thing however between me and the car. Good luck with your circumstances and keep us posted.

Paul,

Which 63 are you getting. They make one for almost all model line you know. The one closest to the M3 would be the C63. That is a sweet ride. Clarkson LOVES it.

Also, our local MB dealer advertises on radio that they will thorw in 4 years free maintenance upon purchase. MB used to have such program and dropped it on a corporate level. This is probably a local dealer incentive to attract sales. You might want to ask your MB dealer if they do so, and have them match it. Never hurts to ask. GL.

Paul,

Just tell them that you bought your 997 GT3 from Bay Area dealers, so you have Bay Area connection, and the local MB dealers are doing it. They need to match it or you will go the Bay Area route again. That could be a few $k savings if you actually kept the car that long. But knowing you, you'll probably trade that for a Veyron in 6 months. The Veyrons have incredible seats BTW. I sat in one at a local (Los Gatos) dealership. Beats my Recaro A8s. Should be perfect for your back.

We are not fibbing here. All the statements are indeed true.
