When you start showing up on TV I might listen to you but I have tracked both cars and the only difference is the superior handling and over all drivers experience of the 997 PERIOD
If your really hard over you could easily add some weight down low ala NASCAR and ballast it out, and lose some weight elsewhere. Really
I agree OG that performance wise it's not going to make a big difference, and 99% of the drivers would never be able to tell, but it's still a significant weight up high and out of place in a proper sport car. It is a very easy way to lose 50/60 lbs too and I don't understand why Porsche won't offer the option in the U.S. It's available everywhere else except here, a slap in the face if you ask me.
It's not only a performance issue, you also miss some clearance with an helmet if you track the car. A sunroof is just useless in a sport car.
It does look weird too... It's like seeing Paris Hilton holding a Hubert Reeves book...

Sorry just IMHO.

Default new duds...

It isnt hard to see which car in your garage gets all the *****.

By the way, i love the sunroof in the GT3 for those sunny days to the coffee shop. It is nice.
But for the goal of installing a clubsport cage the hole makes the install a pain in the ***, so i wouldnt want one for only that reason.
Just as well to buy a RS instead of welding in clubsport cage plates and sunroof removal modification. :rockon

That sunroof is a 40 lbs ballast on the top. If it was 10 lbs it won't be as bad. It's a lot of weight on the worst place possible.

Porsche made all the crazy advertisement of the GT3 RS over the GT3 because they saved just 44 lbs.

We won't notice the difference, not even some of the Pros notice the difference, but the timer doesn't lie.

At the SCCA Solo Nationals, drivers lose a Championship by tenths or hundredths of a second. These drivers that travel thousands of miles once a year to just run 6 laps of around 50 secs, over two days, they really care about every extra tenth of a second advantage they can have. I'm one of thousands of people that do this, and I just want the 40 lbs out of there.

The GT3 is commercially more appealing with a sunroof. People were complaining about the BMW M6 not having sunroof, BMW fixed the problem with the M3, they offer a sunroof option over a steel roof if you don't want the lightweight carbon fiber roof.

Now, I'm a cat lover (with 6), but I never let them in the garage!! Please, have them put outside before they ruin something! You must know how hard or impossible it is to get the smell of cat **** out of something....

I agree with you RAD they SHOULD have given us a choice but now with the 997 being the last GT1 Dry sump motor its a non issue here. BUT if you ran my old Manthey 996 GT3 and then my 997 GT3 you would beat the 996 with the 997 Hence at our Level IT DOESNT matter. You will RARELY run against an RS so in the US all the GT3s will have the same penalty in weight. Why dont we complain about the RS;s greater drag if its that important.
It still comes down to the 997 is so much better than the 996 the sunroof is a non issue.
You race a 997 identically prepared as your 996 and the 997 will be faster.
take your AC out at the track and you get your weight back.
Or the stock passenger seat!
