DO YOU HAVE RMS, pls report here
Seems RMS is becoming a bigger issue of late. Some may not be too concerned, but for the community, if you have RMS issues, please report below and let's get a count.
year: 2007
mileage: 1500 miles first replacement, 17000 miles 2nd replacement
usage: mainly track use, else driving to and from track.

That's one of the benefits of using Mobil 0W40. If you inssist on continuing to use it, add a quart of conventional oil to the next change. 9 out of 10 leaks will stop. Mobil 0W40 is even a worse oil now, with the recent change in its properties.
Never a leak in either the 996 or 04 GT3.

I did not say all Mobil 1 oil was bad, but only highlighted Mobil 0W40. The Mobil Extended Performance oils. paticularly 15W50 is a good oil and does not promote seal deterioration to the extent that 0W40 does. Pennzoil and Syntec are also oils I use.
Use the 0W40 for keeping hinges from squeaking or fogging your boat engine.

if the current 0W40 Mobil oil was bad there should be a pandemic of leaks thru the entire model range, including the 996Gt3s since they will get the same fill at dealer service intervals. This leak epidemic appears almost entirely limited to the 997Gt3/RS which would logically indicate a hardware/design issue.

15,000kms 1st leak - new seal
15,000kms 2nd leak - new seal
0kms 3rd leak - new seal
car is at the dealer waiting on 4th
Porsche apparently sent out someone
think they may be waiting on a new install tool from Germany?
my raceshop didn't have a fancy new tool when they did the first replacement and it worked for 15,000kms
there is now just no conceivable way they don't know they have a huge issue so i'm wondering if they are going to fix my car or if it is going to be sitting with engine removed until someone in germany figures this out

I did some math on this.
Roughly 1500 GT3 / RS in US. Let's say 1/3 of them have RMS leak. And of those that leak, they leak twice. (Conservative numbers I hope.) That's 1000 replacements. Cost to NA is...what? $1000
So total cost of this issue to Porsche is $1M. On a fleet in which they probably profited $10-20k per car. ($15-30M profit)
With those numbers, I'd say they're not working too hard to fix the problem.
Or are my numbers all screwy? I'm just guessing.

Been in the shop all week awaiting a Porsche NA decision as this will be its fourth seal. Car is less than a year old and has only 3800 miles on it. Of course you can't put miles on a car that has been in the shop right at 7 weeks in its short life.
