I've been using the stock lugs, including the keyed one, for some time without issues.
Thanks!

I dunno if anyone realizes that there are 2 main kinds of lug seats on wheels - ball seat and cone seat. The factory Porsche wheels all have a ball seat which is a rounded concave mating surface for the lug. Most aftermarket wheels have a conical or cone seat which is not concave. Using a cone seat lug on a ball seat flange yields inconsistent lug bolt torque and vice versa. Perhaps this is what he means by safety lugs.

Humm that is sure something that I would want to figure out when I buy an extra set of rims. I guess I would ask if i could use the stock lugs but I should as if it is ball or cone. good to know.

Yes, you can use the OEM lugs & star/security lugs. The "key" works fine for install....
I bought the 19" from Tire Rack w/the conti3's and te37 even have the seating correct on the inside of the rim. So they fit perfectly for me.
Though I did have to have the fronts re-balanced......nothing is free.
Aloha,
Todd

So to be clear, seems like the original concern was casted because of the theft-deterrent lugs and the related "key" not fitting (although that has not been an issue for me either).
Just clarifying that we were not dealing with a safety concern about a lug not being able to be properly torqued.

I have had some aftermarket wheels that would not allow a standard deep 1/2" drive 19mm socket to fit into the lug hole. In those instances the options are:
1)Change to a BMW/Mercedes style lug bolt - same 14x1.5mm thread pitch but with a 17mm hex head instead of the 19mm Porsche hex head. This is very easy to do with a lug bolt and you can get either cone or ball seat lugs as needed. A standard deep 1/2" drive 17mm socket has a smaller O.D. and can fit into tighter lug holes
2)retain the factory 19mm lug bolt but use a 3/8" drive deep 19mm thinwall socket. The 3/8" drive deep sockets are usually significantly smaller in O.D. than the 1/2" drive sockets. On 993's there is no option to go to a smaller head lug nut so I use this option.
