Interestingly enough, they say GT3s may have a differemt system, using shift paddles ?

Just read the Edmunds article. The most counter-intuitive aspect seems to be the 'forward' to upshift, 'back' to downshift for the lever in the center console. That seems to be exactly the opposite of what I'd want. The transmission may work great, but the ergonomics seem less than ideal.

This is what I find annoying:

According to August Achleitner, the Porsche engineer with overall responsibility for the new 2009 Porsche 911, the company flirted with the idea of steering-wheel shift paddles, but instead decided to employ a switch system similar to the Tiptronic S automatic since the concept would be familiar and easy to use.
So you make a counterintuitive system just so it will be "familiar and easy to use" for the legacy tiptronic owners? What percentage of those people actually used the rockers on a regular basis to manually shift with the tip?

So it's heavier, a__-backwards, and it makes the steering wheel look like something that belongs in a grand-tourer. Oh, and it costs 3 grand. I'll pass.

I think it is just over $4K. Even more reason to stick with the manual.

I am hoping enough people get it so by the time it gets in a GT3 they will out out all the issues. According to my dealer first model year will be the base car, next will be turbo, followed by GTs. Wonder if we will see them in Supercup next year?

That's what Mjones posted sometime ago. He's usually very accurate w/ information from Porsche. Seems like PDK=No paddles I'm sticking manual for now.

hopefully they figure it out eventually. BMW had the SMG stick go the wrong direction one year and ended up changing it to push down, pull up.

I think they went backwards majorly with the front of the car. The current 997 front looks SO much better to me

I agree. The new mods take a lot of the agressiveness away from the car.

It is amazing that they could get something so easy so wrong. Wouldn't 99% of drivers want paddles with a backup stick that has backwards equals up and forwards equals downshift

It can't be that hard of a thing to figure out

Kiss principle must not translate into German well

Why do these companies have to mess with the accepted standard?

Paddles.. people want what the racers have. Not only because they're cool, but they work well and have the right feel. Buttons?? What, are we playing with the radio over here?

The stick.. pull back to up-shift, push forward to down-shift. What's the problem? (the only thing I can think of is.. they may be concerned that a braking force could cause someone to unintentionally bump the stick forward, downshifting, which could upset the car's balance in a turn and cause a spin. If they bump it and it up-shifts, no big deal.)

tuners will be offering paddles and a coversion kit to reverse the gear action shortly after launch. In a recent interview Porsche all but conceded thiis would not be difficult at all.
