Default GT2 "drive to" Track tires

Seems that a good share of track goers have been able to get custom 18" wheels to fit over PCCBs. I might do the same.

However, there's no exact tire size (as OEM in 325) for the rear (for the front Im going with 245 which worked pretty well in my 997S). Which way you would go? 305 (as in the GT3RS) or 335, and has anybody tried with success 335/30/18 R888 or RA1s?

Thanks

315/30/18 would be the way to go in the R888

I am running the 245 front 315 rear on the GT3 and it works great. I would guess that 335 will be a bit wide.

A 335 should fit fine and would be a good way to go. If it doesnt you can always increase camber and or roll your fenders if they arent already rolled.

The stock tires are an r cmpd, albeit a harder version, but work fine to/from/at the track.
I just drove to/from the glen, no issues whatsoever, using the corsa tires spec'd for the gt3rs.

I know, but consensus is that the OEM PSCs are suboptimal and far from being "true" Rcomps, so I prefer to leave those for street those and try to use RA1s, which I like a lot, or the R888 which appear to be similar in performance.

I mentioned the issue of 18" wheels over PCCB for a 7GT2 to John at CCW a few months ago, and he suggested - are you ready for this - 18x10 with 295 in front, and 18x13 with 345 in the rear.

As much as I love the prospect of making my ears bleed as I go through corners, I wonder about the logistics of stuffing that much rubber under the car.

They are very much R cmpds, don't be fooled by the hype. They are a bit harder no doubt, they take a couple of extra laps to get hot, but once they do they're very close to the old school cups or corsas. As far as 'driving to track tires', that might be short lived with the r888 or even the ra1's, all the tracks around here are 100+ miles away don't forget. That's why I suggested the corsas/cup N0 series.

i spoke with john at CCW about 295 up front. that's a while back, but i seem to recall he said fender needs to be different? i dont qijte remember well.

335 i think will fit 7RS, but it will push badly if you only got 245 or 255 front.

Seems like there are many ways to go on this.

I'd definitely do 335 in the rear because you have a GT2. It should fit and you'll want the grip. For the front I'd do at least a 255 on a 9. It will push, but it seems like it should still push less than the stock 235 on an 8.5. This would all work with stock fenders.

The hot ticket appears like it would be 10s or 10.5s and 13s with 295s and 345s. I believe 10s or 10.5s with 12s to be about optimum for a GT3 (ala CUP S or GMG's modified GT3). Then with the extra 115 hp on a GT2, adding an inch in the rear seems reasonable. If you go with this route you'll need to widen the front. The cargraphic RS front fender kit should fit since I think it replaces just the fender and the front bumper cover is kinda "stretched" or possibly you could get the whole front end from a cup S. I'd do this since I don't see why the RS and 2 had only rear track increases. Porsche motorsport's Cup S and cargraphics tuner grandprix winning RS support this since they both have wider fronts to go with the rears.

Hello my friend,

The Pirelli may in fact be the same Corsa throughout the line, including the Porsche approved - but the N0 19" Sport Cup is not even close to a "real" sport cup. Different tread design (rain channels are about 2x original, shoulders are different, etc.) and the rubber compound is VERY different. My feeling is the compound is PS2 compound - same characteristics to a T and much less capable than PSC compound (I know from personal experience and backed-up by TraqMate data - G loading / braking is much inferior).

This thread goes into the design differences, but not the different compound, but I do remember reading some Porsche literature that said something like "Reformulated for superior cold and wet performance...".

Looks like the optimal solution but too involved for what is my daily driver. Maybe 9.5" front with 255 could be a good compromise not requiring bodywork mods.

BTW I was able to fit 275front on 9" wheels with a simple fender rollup on a 997S with Cup control arms and -3.5 camber. Nevertheless, I didn't like the setup (275F and 305Rears) as the car doesn't have an adjustable suspension and ended up to tail happy on steady state cornering.

The front Cup S bodywork would be ideal, but it would cost you big $$$. Probably not worth it.

I was thinking more about the CUP S body work and I think it would only be for a trailered track car since the front is even lower than stock and is no longer rubber. So I guess I'd get some fenders from GMG or Cargraphic and keep the front with a rubber cup lip if I wanted more front width. If I really wanted more front downforce, I'd add canards.

How good of a setup (just for easiness of execution) is to just replace the fronts with Real PSCups, and keep the N0s in the rear?
