Default Your 911 trail -------where in Porsche did you come from?

I was wondering about everyones car heritage. Where did you come from?
I dreamed about Porsches practically my whole life and I would have probably skipped if there wasnt a dramatic pause in my life. I was buying family trucksters my whole life and I thought "Hey wait a minute!"

So I bought my first 911 (second Porsche) in 2003 which was my 993 TT. THEN I was going to the track and modding my car and I thought
I am trying to make my TT into a GT3 why dont I just buy one? this was in late 04 So I bought a USED GT3 and I hilite it because it was better than off the showroom floor (thanks Watt!!!!)
It had the Manthey 410HP some mods inside and I bought GT3 seats and the roll bar.

but when the 997 GT3 came out I said "WHOA!!!! Hey Wait a minute!!!!!
To me that was my 996 GT3 and the 993 TT wrapped into one. So on to the divorce laiden track I went. Managed to keep my marraige AND the car.
I am going to quit while I am ahead!! My wife says THIS IS YOUR LAST PORSCHE!!!!!

So my trail is :
1981 1970 Porsche 914

2003 Porsche 993 911 Twin Turbo SOLD for:
2004 Porsche 996 911 GT3 SOLD for:
2007 Porsche 997 911 GT3 Last one!!!!

I was never wild about Porsches as a kid. When I got older, I fell in love with vintage (50s-60s) sports cars, still no Porsche preference. As I turned 16, I wanted to something from that era. Someone near me was selling a very beat up 1957 356A Normal for $3200 (this was obviously a while ago). I bought it. I've never looked back.

Just take your signature line, cut and paste it about 4 times, change a couple years around, add a few more cars, and you'll be about half done

I've dreamed Porsches for as long as I can remember. But being slower and poorer than most, it was only much later in life that I could afford one. So, first was a 2003 C4S (now gone), then a 996 Turbo S (now cruiser), a 2007 GT3RS (track car) and now a 2008 Cayenne GTS (wifey's daily driver).

I promise I will work on today actually kind of interesting how i got my first...
I do distinctly Remember sitting in Study hall @ 15 looking at Motor Trend mag... i saw the issue talking about the "new 930" 911 from Porsche .... i said Brian when i Turn 40 i will have one of those...

I built a reasturaunt for a guy i guess i was 35... he ran out of money and could pay the balance of the bill... long story but i wrote off as bad Debt i was Bugged because i knew him, but always Knew the guy was good for money ... a year later the guy came in with a check .... with interest!!!!!!! i guss i got a unexpected Bonus that year

I was Reading Excellence on Saturday and my two yr old lil girl pointed to a beautiful 89 930 in the Classified section ... ( thats how long ago that was) .. thats the one i should get!

i called the Airline( had dial up in those day LOL no high speed searching) hopped on a plane to fla.... bought the most beautiful black 930 I had ever seen! dove it back straight thought to raleigh that day! ... my heart never went below 100 bts a min the whole way!

I was 35! ... so at 42 i found updated 965 black of course! and bought it....
But it will NEVER be " MY 930!"

Some of rest of list is kinda cool also...

It started when I was a little kid with Matchbox cars. I always played with the Porsches as my own private stable (911s (2): green w/yellow interior, and red w/ white interior; 928s (3) tan w/tan interior, blue w/white interior, maroon w/white interior). I actually found my collection a few summers ago when cleaning out my parent's basement.

My family was middle class, but being an only child, I was certainly spoiled. My dad told be at a young age (10?) that he would pay for my clothes, food & education, but that he would not buy me a car when I was old enough to drive. I began working summers at age 12 at a farm, picking and budding strawberries. I did this for 4 summers and put away $2K per year towards my car fund. One of my dad's best friends was his stock broker, and he recommended that I invest that money for a better return. I put all my money in Disney stock, and by 1992, had built a car nest egg worth $20K. By that time, I was looking for a cool BMW. Reading a "Bargain News" (a local classifieds in CT), I saw that late 70s 911s were selling for $13-$17K and I flipped out as I had no idea that Porches were so "affordable". By August of 1993, I purchased my first 911 for $11.5K with 106K on the odometer prior to my sophmore year at college. I didn't spend all $20K b/c my dad & friends recommended that I keep money on the side in case the car had any issues. What a car! Since that time, Porsches have been my main hobby...

I had a similar experience. I'm still on my first p-car and have a long way to go with this marque. I had pictures of p-cars all over my walls growing up as a kid, had the 930 and 964 micro machines that I would occasionally repaint with my dad's cache of touchup paints (until the paint got so thick that they were virtually unrecognizable). All through college and grad school I drove a 1997 Nissan pickup that my father bought for me when I was 17. About a year after I started working at my first "real" job, I decided it was time to retire the pickup and started looking at BMWs. One day I decided for the heck of it I would spec out a new 997 on the configurator just to daydream. I finished up and clicked on the payment estimator thinking "yeah, right," and then I saw the results. After staring at the estimates for a couple of seconds I said HEY! I can actually afford that! Called the dealer the next day and had my 997 a month later.
To be continued...

Blake your dad sounds like Ward Cleaver!! All my dad cared about was me getting out of the house when I was 18. Then once I was safely tucked away in the Service(AirForce) he built a swimming pool.

What was funny about my Porsche story is I wanted a Corvette until I was 10 and I saw my 1st 911. My uncles 911 S was parked outside his home in San Antonio. When we came to visit, the Corvette was whisked away out of my head forever. The 911 was etched on my frontal lobes for good. he let me sit in it and all my aunts say I sat in there for hours just looking. In 85 his wife totaled it and he bought a new 928s. It had 25 miles on it and he took my wife and I out north of Albuquerque about 25 miles (he was now a commander at Kirtland and had moved from Brookes AFB in San Antonio) He let me drive it all the way back. I was hooked on Porsche already but that cemented it for me.

Man you must of thought Porsche cost about $200K. I think no matter what you do on the car
configurator on a 997 its going to come in at $90K plus. I always got frustrated with the configurator,
because it would always come back with the price:
YOU'RE DREAMING!!!

Haha not quite just didn't have a good perspective on prices. Growing up my dad never bought any cars over $40k so that was my baseline definition of "expensive." I just figured it would be a lot later in life when I could afford the payments on a p-car. Glad I checked into it otherwise I'd be driving a 335 right now and wishing I had a 997!

We had a 335 for awhile but we had problems (early build) so my dealer bought the lease back and they got the Z4M for us and wifey is happier but she still misses her four door..
