Default Upper Suspenion Link Bushings Cracked

A good friend and a very solid mechanic told me that while working on customer cars he has noticed that the upper suspenion link bushings were cracked. He found this on a 997 GT3, a 997 S, a 997 TT and a Boxster S.

We all know that rear toe is delicate on our cars and switching to better lower toe links is a good idea. From what my pal has seen, the upper ones are also a weak spot. He was able to get 1/8 inch of play with nothing more than a screw driver. The upper link affects toe and camber and if it can be jiggled 1/8 inch with a screw driver I wonder what happens under hard cornering.

Anyone seen and or cured this?

Best,

Bob - another RS owner, and good driver, saw this as a potential problem (toe and camber changes under heavy load) and replaced with solid bushing toe links. I'm heeding his advice and doing the same.

Shoudn't there be a retrofit part by Porsche? As the adjustability of the suspension is one of the KEY things on the 3 cars?

Uncle Bob, I dont know of any one that drives as much as you and Mooty. I figure it should happen on one of your cars. We should keep look out.

I am in the process of hunting this noise coming from my left suspension gear. When the car is cold/unused it does not make any noises. As soon as I exercise the car, it comes back. I can only hear/feel it at slow speeds 10 mph / 30 mph.

It sounds like a busted roller bearing and it is more pronounced when I go through cracks and wavy roads than when loading/unloading shocks over speed bump or driveway.

Just changed the link of the front sway bar (it has bushings at both ends). Drove it yesterday morning and it was not fixed.

I have not felt any changes in settings.

Did your friends mentioned any particular noise? By the way, just went over 12,000 kms.

Are you guys aware of any recall on screws / nuts in the disk brakes. My car is scheduled for a replacement (PCCB), nuts were ordered?

There was a recall on PCCB's for making sure the rotors were torqued properly to the hats
I believe it was for the front only

Bob:
Is the suspension link bushing mounted inside/within the "supporting mount" 997 343 011 94?
Thanks,
Luis

Canuck - no it did not happen on the 6GT3. I don't know if MY RS ius affected (yet). Just passed on a note from Michel who found cracked bushings on a 7 GT3 a & TT and a 987 Box S. If the bushing is craked and allows for a lot of play, it would explain some of the handling complaints we've heard about. My car will go to Racerron for TRG toe links one of these days - if it ever stops snowing. I'll have him check the upper links and report on this forum.

Best,
