look at the past to help predict the future ...

based on the 996 GT2 i would say no.

very few cars hold their value from new. some appreciate after first depreciating.

From what I've seen the 997 GT3 has held up much better than the 996 GT3. If I remember correctly, there were a number of discounts on 996s sitting on dealer lots. Not so with the 997.

That being said 996 values have certainly firmed up from the initial depreciation rate. I think the 997 just hasn't take that initial wack like the 996 did. i think that time will show the 3 to 4 year depreciation curves being similar although the 997 may be less.

As for the 997 GT2, who knows really...a $200K Porsche 911 is tough. At that level there a few that can afford a "limited" purpose car. Whether they choose to hold or sell will determine the depreciation rates.

I would look to the CGT for perhaps a bit of insight rather than the 996 GT2.

The 997 GT3 has held its value extremely well, I was being sarcastic...

The 997 GT2 should remain strong for some time

I dont think so, look at the 996 GT2. Its overpriced and its a car without a home
(i.e. no homologation, no race class)
I dont see how 30 HP over the TT is worth $60k more than a TT (not including premiums the dealers are trying to get) But thats just my opinion and I cant get one without some sacrifices so take that with a grain of salt. I bet though -it will hold its value better than a 6 GT2.

ppl worry about value, but never say if they drive the car.
if you dont drive it, literally ANY car will hold value, look at Model T. a yugo turbo in 2050 would probably worth quite a bit of money.

if you drive it , ANY car will depreciate like rock. would you buy a 200,000 miles Enzo or a 100,000 mile bugatti royale?

+1 It also appears that the more exclusive the car, mileage and use play more of a factor. 10k on a GT3 won't have the same effect as 10K on a 430 or CGT. The further up the food chain, the bigger impact use has on the car.

Check out the Feb issue of Excellence, there is an article about the new GT2. The article reports that Walter Rohrl was silent after completing several laps in the new GT2. A Porsche engineer was concerned that there was something horribly wrong with the car. However, Rohrl said the new GT2 is the best car he's ever driven. Based on the article this car is much improved over the 996 version. It also states that there will only be 200 to 300 cars allocated to the US out of the 1300 production run. So my guess is it will be a high demand low supply car with unmatched performance which should keep the cost/value high. Check out the article you may change your mind on your plans for the new RS.

Default gt2

no defiantely not changing my mind on the new rs. I bought the rs already, will be here by mid Jan. I am debating if I want to keep my 997TT when it ets here, sell it, or get the gt2 in addition to the rs.

It depends on how many they build. As long as they don't screw it up this time around (so far so good), and get tricked by the false demand of the car because of multiple deposits by brokers, then the value should hold fairly well. Who knows, maybe they will be like Ferraris if they don't build too many and the GT2 really is the best car in the world (according to Walter). But then you can't put too many miles on the car either. I can't do that, I have to drive my GT3; anything else is just ridiculous. Cars are for driving, not looking at.
