I'm seeing a lot of posts regarding best tires for track (RA1s, Hoosier, etc.) and how folks don't like the MPSCs. Any recommendations on the best tires for the street?

Tirerack shows OE tires as being:
- Michelin Pilot Sport Cup (MPSC)
- Michelin Pilot Sport PS2
- PZero Rosso (which is what I have right now)
- Bridgestone Potenza RS050A.

I've heard good things about the Bridgestones and I've always been partial to them so I'm thinking about giving these a try. I live in Seattle so I'd like something that will be at least OK in the rain (which rules out the MPSCs).

Roland: PS2 are great in the rain. I use them for rainy days at the track as well. I am in Mill Creek

I've not heard anyone say they don't like MPSCs. In fact they are a pretty amazing tyre, developed in tandem with the GT3, and only an issue in standing water when they are worn.

For most users the problem is their limited life and high replacement costs.

Logically, the PS2 should be a better all weather street tyre, with longer life and better sidewall protection.

But, it would be interesting to know if the GT3 loses any of its dynamic qualities on PS2s.

And, are the Corsas the ideal middle option?

I had the Corsas now the PS2 on my GT3. I find the Corsas to be perfect for the street. Better grip and much less road noise than the PS2.

I have the Corsa also. I find it a good street tire and I have tracked it in cold or rain. have not driven the sport cups.

Thanks for the replies thus far. Based on this thread and discussions I've had w/ some folks, I'm going to go w/ the PS2s. Roberga, do you work in bldg40? I believe I've seen (and heard!) your car.

PS2s are great. The MPSCs that come on the GT3 don't have the all around versatility of the PS2s for street use, nor the grip of better R comps including 18" MPSCs. Very much a compromise tire IMO.

Thanks. Of course, the MPCSs only exhibit excellent grip once up to temperature (or so I've read) and that will rarely be obtainable on the street even w/ spirted driving, wouldn't you agree? An thus, a tire that doesn't require much heat in it to perform well (perhaps the PS2s) could in fact perform better on the street. Just speculating here in the absense of any real data or experience w/ these two tires. Btw, my car has the Pirelli Corsa tires, not the MPSCs. From what I've read these are better behaved in the rain so I might be OK to stick w/ these for a while, but I still wonder if you need to get a lot of heat into them to make them grip in which case, again, not a very good choice for the streed IMO.

I like both the pirellis and the ps2 which are on both of my other cars. pirellis seem to have a bit more rain traction but if you slow drive in the rain neither is an issue like the cups.

I've driven the pirellis here in europe for about 2800 miles including sub freezing temps in the swiss alps and had no issues at all with squirley behaviour...even in the snow they handle fine. yes I drove in the snow.

I have the Corsas on my GT3 and have used them both on track and street. I really think that they are the best compromise tire that I have tried. The PS2s aren't that great on the track and are noisy on the street. The MSPC's are great on the track (in the 18" size) and great on dry streets but can be scary in the rain above 60 mph.

I'm sticking with Corsas until I get a set of 18" wheels and then I'll have MSPC's for the track and Corsas (19") for the street.

Are the Corsas R compound or regular street compounds?

P Corsa is R compound..It's actually D.O.T approved competition tire, just like Mich PSC

For all rounder, street, wet/dry , occasional track days...I think the CORSA serves the best package.

Since we're talking for best tire for the street, I went the other way and had a set of Nittos in 19" installed that seem to be just fine, and only cost $1200 for 4 tires, INSTALLED. I go thru many many sets of 18" track tires a year, but at least in FL I don't see any reason anymore to have "sticky" tires for the street, since our spirited driving is onto and off I95. When I go to the track, I bold on my 18" R888's and drive to the track. The actually felt pretty good in the rain too.
