Default European 997 OEM GT3 RS seats not so comfy...

Am I the only one that thinks the position/angle of the OEM setup is too forward/upright? Doesn't bother me on short drives, but went for 200 mile drive last week-end and it was not as comfy. I have taken the lumbar pad out. Is there any way to change the angle, or do we have to get different Recaro side panels?

If there is already a thread on this subject, my apologies, I could not find it.

Tico, thanks for posting that. I've heard comments about them being less comfy. One of them was from a guy with a big waist,so I discounted it. Obviously not your problem. How do they compare to the 996 seats?

They are certainly a more 'snug' fit than the buckets in my last MKII GT3...and a bit harder to get in and out of...

They seem to push you forward from your shoulders....

Having said this, i find the rest of the comfort and support better than the last ones..

also noted that the angle is less than ideal and not all that adjustable...perhaps other recaro side rails would work from a cup?....my lats are not even close to getting into these seats.....

Default 996 seats

Bob, your 996 GT 3 seats have a better angle, I lke them better all around. I am small and the Recaro SPG's fit best. Wish I had gone with your seats, need to see now if I can do something about the angle in the ones I have. Hope someone here has a solution for me.

Thanks,

Tico

I've heard that the sport bucket seats in the GT2 are more comfortable than the RS seats if anyone (such as myself) is considering them.

i honestly prefer the 996gt3 seats as well... I'm not "large" or anything at 175 pounds but I'm no skimpy cat-walk model either...

i am 5'9" 182lbs, fits both 997 996gt3 seats and like the uprightness. but 996 has slightly more incline angle.

if you track the car a lot, why not get spg, spg hans pro, omp (the seat that came on 997 cup cars) you can get them from FVD, site sponsor.

I think the ROW clubsport seats are very comfortable, both 996 AND 997. The driving position is perfect for the track.

Default SPG's

Mooty: I like your idea. My next step will be to take the side brackets and an SPG from one of the other cars to make sure this works. The regular SPG's are perfect for me, because I am also only 5' 8", but weigh only 150 #'s. Won't be able to try it for a couple of weeks, will let you know.

Thanks,

Tico

geeze, so you are a stick figure
spg would feel like a lose giant sofa for ya.
spg will fit the car for sure. i have spg hans pro xl.
it will center about the the str wheel not offset like bmws, plenty of fore/aft adj, will not hit the door panels and will clear the center tunnel.

i use recaro side mounts and the sliders from 996gt3 euro seats. there are no other sliders that's this smooth. and the seat has no lateral movement at all. when i was teched, the guy swear my seat was bolted to the tub as he never seen rail'd seats with so little movement side to side.

btw, if you run HANS, chk your shoulder ht relative to the shoulder harness hole on the seat. we are about same ht, but my torso is like 2x longer than my short legs that most seats has the holes BELOW my shoulder. the spg hans xl seats fits me to the T like it was custom made, i do need a few more cushions on the side as it's a bit wide for me. otherwise perfect.

Default 997 GT 3 RS sliders

Mooty, one last question: do you think I can stick with the 997 GT3 RS sliders already on the car and just bolt on the Recaro side brackets and the SPG? Yes, I use Hans and understand, good point. Thanks again.

yes, you can.
you need to mod the side mounts i am sure, but that should be easy.

I like the Euro buckets and seating position in the RS (exactly the same as my CGT). However, even in the top holes, it is about 2 in too low for my wife. I have been considering having new seat pads made (lose side support?) or making new side brackets. Then I thought, someone has already done this. Advice?
