Default Hey Alex (Sharky), ZKermit's African cousin here (pics)

Went past the dealer and saw Kermit sitting there. I nearly bought it! Very nearly - I mean just look at it! But I'm not prepared to part with my 996 RS yet, so no deal.

Anyway, just figured I'd post the pics here. I can't stop staring at them. What a hot looking car! And the only green one in the country.

So sick... But I must admit, it would be very tough for me to give up a 996 RS too!

I would hate to think what that costs in South Africa!

So what are they asking?

Are you sitting down? MSRP for 997 RS, base - no options... R1,800,000. At current forex rate, that's US$ 270k. With ceramics and a few other options you're looking at $300! Problem is the ridiculous import luxury tax of around 80% or more.

Amazingly, expensive cars are all over the place. Bentleys, Phantoms, Astons, F430s... you name it, I see lots of them. AMGs by the thousands. And about 90% of the population can't afford a bicycle. Strange place.

Hehe that's awesome. It's certainly pretty neat in person although this is one of the rare pictures that seems to capture the color pretty well (good job!). We never got the 996GT3RS here unfortunately but I know some folks back home in England that have them and swear by them. They'll never, ever, ever part with them either so I can see where you're coming from.

Why is this color so hard for cameras to get right? I had to shift the hue a bit with PS to correct it. In the original pics, the car is more Teal.

I just don't know.. it's weird but it always looks more washed out. Ron Kimball did a shoot on our car and obviously got it right

Go to www.kimballstock.com and check for "GT3" in automotive.

Ron Kimball's shots look great. Maybe with carefully controlled lighting temperatures it can look perfect. But I would not be surprised if he also did some Photoshopping.

Sharky - it's the blue sky here - summer is on the way. You will have to live up to your name and come and dive with our sharks - you can call that an open challenge - beer after the dive will be on me.

Yes, I will be at Kyalami Sunday. Should be fun seeing so many GT3s in one gathering.

Hah! Truly awesome it must be... I would absolutely love to do that and I know I will. We've got the faralons close by and I haven't even gone!

Yeah, managed to do that on our little test drive

Kermit is a press car with 6000 hard kilometers on it, but the dealer GM assures me it's been checked by his race mechanic and is mechanically perfect. It certainly feels perfect. It will get a new lip and new clutch when sold. And all Porsches here come with a 5 year drive plan that covers everything, including regular servicing, except tires and clutch. My feeling is if you have a GT3 with unscathed front lip, you're not trying hard enough.
