Here's what I've done for years:
- EDIT - Oil & filter change (oops forgot that I do that)
- put in fuel stabilizer in partially filled tank at gas station
- fill tank to mix up stabilizer
- drive around for a bit to make sure stabilizer goes through fuel system
- wash, wax, condition leather if any
- hook up trickle charger
- cover

If you do store at home, don't keep things like dog food in the same area you keep the car. No point in attracting mice to live in the car.

A lot depens whether you garage is heated or not. Much much better if it is. Anyways, here's a short list, I have a very loooooooong list/explanation I can post if you want.
- Warm up the car.
- Fill the tank with fuel and ad fuel stabilizer if car is going to sit more than 3 months.
- Change the oil.
- Wash the car.
- Drive the car so water is not standing in corners, etc. Very important!
- Wax the car.
- Treat the seals and rubber trim.
- Clean and condition the interior.
- Pump the tires up to max pressure noted on sidewall of tire (to prevent flat spotting).
- It's not the worst idea to change transmission fluid and flush brake fluid sometime before storage.
- Drive the car onto plastic in storage area to keep condensation from forming on the underside of car from warm winter or spring days. This is important if you store your car on a concrete surface and your garage is not heated. If your garage is heated, forget about it.
- Block the wheels (to prevent car from moving).
- Do NOT set the parking brake.
- Leave the car in neutral.
- Remove the battery or disconnect negative terminal or put a trickle charger.
- Plug the air cleaner intake, exhaust pipe and cooling fan if possible. Remember to write down what you closed up so you can reverse the process in spring. You don't want to forget to remove covers from your intake or fan in spring!
- Cover the car
- Pray for spring…
