Anyone uses the GT3 as a Daily Driver?
#16
So I wouldn't mind it if this car had to be my daily driver, it is really very flexible. Plus it has the advantage (arguably) that the looks are common enough for the average folks that one can keep a low profile and still park it by a restaurant or bar without undue attention.

i dont DD my gt3, but at 2000/month, it's close.
suspension is not too stiff for DD.
but the prob is it sits too low. you are a sitting duck coming off driveways. you have to pull out so slowly that you have to wait even for buses to get by before you.
other than that, it's fine.
though compared to your Ruf, the Ruf is a better DD. GT3's has zero tq compared to Ruf. sits lower than your Ruf and less comfortable than your Ruf. the clutch is significantly heavier than the Ruf as well. basically i hate driving it unless i can drive it recklessly. but suspensionwise, it's not bad at all.

John,
You hit all the key points that I was interested in.
I was concerned about the ground clearance (only a little). I know the tq number is pretty lame (below 300 ft/lb), and I don't rev high much so I probably have to change my driving style to adapt to the GT3 tq curve.
The Ruf actually has a VERY stiff clutch, as the 95 993s have no hydrauic clutch-assist (ala the 993tts), but I'm fine with it as I have little commute traffic. The Cayman has a much lighter clutch than the Ruf.
I am surprised to hear that you 'hate' (pretty strong word) driving the GT3 unless you're on spirited runs.
I have to get more seat time in a GT3. I'm such suckers for the looks, and the 19.6 gallon tank, at this point.
Of course, I can always dump a 3.8L X51 motor into the Cayman.

Interesting, Both Yahoo and Edmunds list the GT3 tank as 19.6 gallon (ala my 993). However, I know the gas gage light comes on when you still have 2-3 gallons left in the tank, so it could 'feel' like a 17 gallon tank.
Did you run it almost dry, and fill up at 17 gallons? or you fill 17 gallons when the gas gage light comes on?

996 GT3 RS daily driver with GT3 buckets. Only downside is low front lip which is even slightly lower on the 997. But it's not too bad and you soon get used to taking ramps at an angle. Also, I don't sit too much in stop-go traffic. If I did I would prefer automatic or a lighter clutch. But overall the GT3 makes a wonderful daily driver for the enthusiast.

Porsche web site lists the GT3 gas tank capacity at 17.7 gallons.

Pong I dont daily drive mine but I do take it to work 1-2 times a weeek and I really look forward to it!!
If I didnt love the car so much I would probably drive it EVERY day!!!
Compared to your Ruf (what I remember it as) the GT3 would be a easier DD.

i've always daily driven 3's and 2's before. This car is slightly more irritating to drive in traffic and freeways due to the choppy hoppy up and down ride characteristics. I prefer the strad for commuting - f1 shift easier, better ride, better looking/ better internal environment. gt3's main advantage vs strad: you can park it anywhere
