I've spent a week in an R8 and also driven the 997 GT3. I freaking love the R8, everthing about puts it up there as one of those all time greats and a complete traffic stopper on the looks front, literally, even here in LA. The motor is phenomenal, and yes those EVO times are real.
However, I got to spank my buddy's new GT3 the other day after the R8 and for the same money it would be a very tough call--that could go either way to be honest. If you lean more towards the track I think maybe the GT3 takes it, but for a real honest to god daily driver the R8 is probably the one you'd want to live with. But then again....oh, I don't know....they're probably the two best cars in the world right now--well except for the 599 but then you're talking real money!

Robin is probably right I have not seen one in person and it probably is a photo thing.

Audi had a couple of R8s here when we had the ALMS race in Houston. It's a nice looking car, looks smaller in person, very cool. I wouldn't trade my Turbo for it, but it's a nice car. I hear rumors about a twin turbo V8 instead of the V10 in the R8s future. With 500 HP it would be a match for the Turbo, right now it's on par with the C4SX51.

R8 v8 or v10, they may be fast and nice ....

The Audi doesn't really do it for me. Still, shame that the DOT has the car companies crush their test mules and press cars at the end of the press junkets. What a waste. Our government at work.
