Default GT 3 rear muffler

does the GT 3 really need the rear/center muffler? seems like over kill to me... or is the rear muffler more of a free flow design?

Saw a custom rear muffler and exhaust pipes on a rennlister's car by 911 design got me thinking and hunting...

I think it is one of those pesky items required by law. Same for those pesky cats, but they help our trees; unless they get caught in one...

But I hear ya, who needs all that exhaust junk; it just weighs down the car and adds complexity.

I believe that GMG offers a product that replaces the center muffler with virtually straight thru pipes.... http://www.gmgracing.com/porsche_exh...wc997gt3.shtml

Jack,
Saw that but it seems a bit on the expensive side... but then again... I think majority of these "performance" items are that way.

I emailed 911 design two days ago and still no response... time for a phone call?

their system seems bit more track oriented but right on and without frills... I kind of like that.

$2K for some bent tubbing is way too much for me. If they can get it down to about half, I'm in.

Looks like the 911 design are using burnstainless mufflers and also some bent tubbing. How much are they selling theirs for?

I don't know exactly how much goes into making a piece like this (R&D, equipment, materials, labor, etc.), but $2K does seem a lot of $$ for what's there. Taking into consideration this product's low production volume, I can only see charging somewhere between $1,000 and $1500. It does look like nice quality though.

I realize the GMG system is a lot less expensive than the header/cat/muffler/tip systems, and if you're only looking for sound it does look appealing, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be priced correctly for what it is. I don't see $7500 for Cargraphic's header/cat/tip system either.

...or Fabspeed's GT3 tips at $650. They're nice, but that too seems a little steep for that piece... $300 - $350, fine.

There's either more to it than I know or these guys are just charging a bit too much. But hey, I give them credit for building this stuff in the first place.

I like the 911 design also... but they have not responded to my email... guess I am going have to call them.

just got off the phone with Loren at 911 design about their system from grussell's car... he said that was a cargraphic exhaust system that they modified - it was too heavy. its definitely not for street... way too loud... track use only...

although, he did say if anyone with a GT 3 that is near his shop he would be happy to make a lighter exhaust system to replace the rear muffler. also make a jig to manufacture them... he assured me they would be a great job... not a butcher shop job... I would do it except my car is in NJ. anyone???

George

hey guys... interesting thread and just an FYI, we already made our own in-house exhaust bypass for our own car. We designed it so that we can re-use the stock tips. It has no resonance either inside the cabin and we saved 18 pounds. We're going into production right now and are making a run of 10 (about 4 are already spoken for) but if you're interested let me know. I'll have a video of it soon but suffice to say it works well because you still keep your on/off sport button and don't get a headache from it either. It sounds different to stock (so far everyone thinks it's even better).

For the localy bay area guys we've got the car at the shop so you're welcome to listen anytime
