Default rear seats

hi folks... looking at possibly a 997 gt3 (speed yellow of course).

i was hoping someone might be able to offer some advice. I have kids who would probably never talk to me again if they couldn't ride in the back of my pcar.

So is it possible to retrofit some 997 rear seats into a gt3? (i know i'm backwards).

Are the seat belt anchors there?

Would you need a new carpet kit from the rear of a 997?

Thanks for any help. IF anyone has done this mod please do share your experience.

Cheers,
Boris

everything is there, you can technically do it.
but there will be liability issue and all.
you can just buy all the parts from 997

Wait til the 998 comes around- you mite get your wish since they already done the sunroof thing. I agree- liability issue-wouldn't do it. Mike

god forbids you have an accident on the street with one of your kids in the back seat.
are they covered or not?
the car has been modded, the rear seat fell off for some reason, are you covered or not.
things like that.
i am not saying you are for sure NOT covered. but you better chk it out from every dimension before you stuff the seats in there.

Well, you guys might be in for a surprise.

I have a SY GT3 and I have ordered ALL the necessary parts (including a piece of metal that is factory soldered onto the rear frame, yes I have to order the whole piece and then re-solder the metal post) so everything came back and I was ready to do it at the dealer. I think it costs a total of $4xxx but that's not the point.

Just when everything was ready, the dealer was told by the German head office that they should not and cannot do it! Well, there goes my beloved SY GT3!

Looks like they deliberately made it difficult to do a DIY rear seat install.

Well, the dealer suggested me to take the parts outside and install them......

I DON'T THINK SO!

Forget the seats. The rear of the 911 is much more comfortable to sit in without those stupid "seats" back there. The only downside is that the bottom gets a little toasty. BTW, I'm talking about the 996 - don't know if the 997 is different.

I had belts installed in my old Mk-I 996 GT3, no seats, and kids loved riding back there. When I bought my 996 RS, I learned that the RS has no belt anchors, which sucks. Once again, don't know how/if this applies to the 997 models.

I'm tackling this project as we speak. I'll take pics of the progression. So far, all the anchor points are there including seat belt mounts. The only thing that has to be customized is what Slimer said...

(including a piece of metal that is factory soldered onto the rear frame, yes I have to order the whole piece and then re-solder the metal post). This is to secure the seat back rest.

Alternatively, I may just put on the seat belts using stock mount/anchor points, and shove a booster seat in the back.

Slimer, you got a PM.

My dealer installed all the factory pieces on my new 996GT3 in 2004, including welding the outer tab. I love my 4 passenger GT3. I would not hesitate to have a qualified independent shop do the job.

And all this time I thought the idea was to make the car lighter. I hear BMW makes some 4 seaters.
