I have been reading all the posts about 'slots' used up already for 2008, etc. I wonder when will someone be able to walk in to a deaer and order a 7-GT3 at MSRP or less...? 2009? Any information out there on this?

I have been trying to get an allocation (called from Chicago to the west coast). No dice, unless you are willing to pay 15 grand over MSRP. Even on used GT3's with 2000 miles on them, the dealers and brokers are trying to get 15 over.
From what the dealers have been saying, 2008 will be the last 997 GT3.

MkII with 3.8L motor, Direct injection, facelift, etc. to come after that. Maybe we'll even get those cool bucket seats from the GT2 that have airbags in the sides, so we can have them in the US...

You can order a 997 GT3 /RS, and pay MSRP (if there is a allocation available), but it all the used ones that are going for allot more then MSRP. Most dealers sell them for MSRP to the oroginal people who order them, and then they get a used one and jack that sh$t up. Every dealer i have talked to, are selling them NEW for MSRP. There all crooks, lol................ Only a little more then a 100, GT3's will be delivered to the US next year, OUCH!!!! Then no more......... SUPER OUCH

I had my deposit money refunded last week from my dealer who said they were not getting any more for next year.

i really expected that to be the answer in this thread... that we are into 2009 now...but it sounds like maybe Mk1 will be finished in 2008?
i suppose i can/should just go down to the dealer and ask on Monday... but i like dealing with Rennlist a lot better than the local dealer...
still not even sure that i will go this route, but maybe...

A month or two later the calls started coming in. Some cars were 3 - 6 months out, but I had the opportunity to get them. One day, a dealer 50 miles away called with an open allocation, so I took it and ordered the car the way I wanted it. It came in three months later.
While I was waiting for my car, I received calls from three dealers with cars immediately available for msrp (canceled orders). One red, I didn't really want red, but I probably would have taken it if I hadn't secured my car. One black, I didn't want to care for black. The last white, this call came about three weeks before my (white) car came in.
The moral of the story is, keep trying... you'll likely find a car. Of course, with only 105 '08 GT3s, you'll have a harder time of it than I did. Good luck.

*Ordering* a car is quite a bit different than getting a car at MSRP. Cars become available, generally w/i months of delivery or shortly after delivery, for a variety of reasons. Spec'ing your own car is quite a bit more problematic.
If you are willing to put out a bunch of feelers, you'll get one but perhaps not your color or option choice.

so, does anyone know definitively if 2008 will be the last year for the mk1 GT3?
i am interested in one at MSRP, but only what i want in terms of options, color, etc... and only one that has never been driven by anyone else... if i cant make all that work, then probably wouldnt get one..
my 98 S goes for PPI next week, pending successful outcome is sold... it seems that 997 GT3 would be a great replacement

I stopped in to look at an orange GT3 RS at a western suburban Chicago dealership for my brother in law who had asked my advice on which Porsche he should buy - he currently has a Bentley Continental GT and recently joined a local autoclub track. The car had a sold tag on it but I was able to see the window sticker ($150K) The attitude of the salesman was rude and condescending when I asked if there were any other cars available this year from his allocation and/or whether a GT3 RS could be purchased for MSRP - his answer was alway "I can't answer that question". I know which dealer I won't be going back to for anything again.

Spend a day and call all 200+ US Porsche dealers about '08 GT3 availability and leave your number. Pick your preferred options and let them know about your desire to customize the spec. Some dealers are funny about selling out of state and some don't seem to care.
In any case: Go to your local Porsche dealer and get on the waiting list for an '09 model GT3. It's usually a refundable $500 deposit.
Good luck hunting, you will not be disappointed with the car.
