Tire and Alignment questions
Hi Folks, My SY Gt3 needs to have new rear tires put on. I am showing cords on the inside edge of my driver side rear tired. The passenger side rear inside edge actually looks like it has plenty of 'meat' on it still.
1]
Is it ok to just replace the rears? Thoughts?
2]
I will be adjusting my rear camber to be -2.0 instead of the -2.5 I had based on the track setup.
A lot of you have -2.5 in the fronts instead of -2.0 as per the manual. Why? Should I follow that or leave it -2.0 fronts and -2.0 rears? Thoughts and comments please.
Any advice on setting toe in? Should I follow the manual settings for track/toe settings?
I track my car 8 to 10 times a year.
Finally, should I ask them to balance the car better so the tire wear is even for driver side and passenger side?
3]
The gt3 allows you to set Caster right? What should I set that to? The service rep was not sure I could set that or not on the 997 gt3.
Thanks in advance,
Greg

it's ok to just replace the rear if you still got a lot of life up front. else might as well do all four
many run 2.5F/2.0R to reduce push. you should see how you like your car to behave then adj accordingly.
toe as per track alignment is fine, shouldn't induce too much wear considering you track 10 times a year. and zero toe front wont make it too darty either.
it's strange that your left and right tire aren't wearing evenly. do you swap them side to side, if you always run the same track? for example TH will wear right side since it's usually run CCW. if that's not the case, something weird is going on with your alignment.
i dont think you can adj caster on stock GT3.

Thank you very much Mooty
I do desire to reduce push so I already made adjustments to my sway bars that helped a bit.
I do not swap tires side to side. I run 3 tracks
ButtonWillow CW and CCW [i prefer 13a]
Willow Springs big track
and once on Cal speedway roval (which is just to die for)
I thought it was my 210 lbs of body weight that caused the driver side to 'wear' more.

Are you sure, if so that is the opposite to every other one I've heard about.
It appears that the factory has a penchant for setting all the cars up for maximum oversteer, (where adjustable bars are concerned).
Also,
You might want to check "middle hole for each".

sway bar settings
I'm thinking of switching my bars to the middle position front and rear. I currently have 1 position from full stiff in front and full soft in the rear. I sense a little too much movement with the full soft in the rear. Also, allows a bit of rear "power slide" out of slow speed 2nd gear turns. This might be a good thing, I'm not totally sure yet.

I actually don't know...I have to get under the car and check it out and I don't have a jack that ifts under the car.
As I understood it, the car came full stiff in front and full soft in rear but again I have to check. I need to soften up the front because I push hard mid-corner with throttle.

most of the cars i saw were one from full soft front and full stiff rear.
