Thanks for sharing. Amazing that the Porsche, Lambo, Bugatti and Audi are all essentially the offsprings of Piech.

So, where were they driving them?

I took a drive up in the North Carolina mountains on Sunday that rivaled those roads in the video. Came back (probably 200 miles later) with a grin from ear to ear. What fun!

Near Molsheim, in France, where the Veyron is built (and original Bugattis were built). At the end of the video, you see the Veyron next to a large house/castle. That's where CNBC had a segment on the car. Does the Veyron really do everything better than the others, like handling?

Wow, looks like I should get a Veyron....too bad it's made of unobtanium.

The Veyron obviously performs extremely well, but I'm still not smitten by the front end - just not pretty in my eyes.

I don't really care for the Veyron. It's an overweight fat pig. It's built for bragging rights thats it. Maybe i'm too much of a purist but I don't think I'd be happy with one.

Agreed, the Veyron is grotesque. Love the Superleggera's exhaust note!

Unfortunately, so is the 997 (a big fat pig). I say this as an Elise owner and a "997 GT3 waiter." If my Elise can weight 1920 lbs, then the GT3 should be able to come in at 2700 lbs for its size. That is where it should be. But for the weight of a GT3, I think it is one of the lightest feeling 3200 lb cars out there. I really wish more manufacturers would follow Lotus' philosphy and shed some lbs worth mentioning; the 40 lbs for the RS model because of the rear window is not worth mentioning. I don't expect the GT3 to get anwhere near the weight of an Elise (it is a much bigger car anyway), but I would like it to shed at least a couple of hundred lbs over a regular 997 (base cars in both cases), and the RS to shed another 100 lbs over the regular GT3 (standard PCCB's, plastic rear window, more carbon fiber, lighter seats, less sound deadening material, etc...). The fact that the 997 comes standard in the US with a sunroof says a lot. It does not in Europe, so it must be an American thing with all the options. On the other hand, I can have a GT3 and an Elise and have the best of both worlds.

I agree the 997's do weigh more than they should; the same goes for my 350Z. The Elise does have some advantages though, such as no bumpers, that allow it to shed more weight than most cars.

my $0.02: you kinda have to drive the Veyron to appreciate it. The car is heavy but it feels light. Quick turn in, plenty of steering feel. It moves about a bit on rough roads but the suspension really does a good job keeping the wheels in touch with the road. The power is nearly impossible to describe. You're always going faster than you think approaching a corner and consequently I overcooked a few on the one lap of a track I got. On public roads it's fun to scare speed bikes.

I've never found the Gallardo terribly interesting. looks like an MR2 to me. That being said, I haven't driven the new Superleggera.

The R8 is as daily drivable as a 997 but it's quicker and is obviously more of a visual experience. Great drive and though it's plenty fast you can tell the chassis was designed for more power. I'd choose it over a 997 C4S.

Aston looks great. 'nuff said.

To answer the obvious question...I drove the Bug at the press launch in Sicily in Oct 2005.

I saw the R8 live in NYC at the showroom and it was a visual experience, albeit not a nice one...car looks like is made of parts of other different cars, its very weird. I did not get to seat inside but the interior was more luxurious than the 911...IMHO the 911 is much nicer, has + character if you will
