Default Rotating strut hats, how much

camber do you gain, or perhaps more importantly, what is your range of camber values once you rotate?

Edit, looks like I found it, from Unitah in this thread it looks like -2 to -3 with rotated strut hats.

FRayed, when I rotated the strut I measured 1.87 degrees negative with the shock in the full positive position. Neg 2.5 with the shock a little past the middle of the adjustment slot. So, I confirm Unitah's post.

Best,

That is correct, with the strut rotated 180°, you "start off" at about -2.0° camber WITHOUT adding shims. To go higher then -2.0° camber, you start with the shims...

So, to get -2.5 I'll need shims?

That question seems to be unanswered thus far. I was able to get -2.5 WITHOUT shims (just by rotating the struts). However, I thought I read / heard of someone needing a 2mm shim to get -2.5 even after the struts were rotated.

So, I can not confirm this either way. All I can say is I was definitely able to get -2.5° camber in the fronts just by rotating the struts WITHOUT shims.

Thanks Unitah! Just needed to know if I should order shims. It goes in this week for the track related items.

Is rotating the strut mounts something that Porsche says to do or is it something that just happens to work? It would seem that changing the position of strut mount point would change the arc of the suspension travel in a different way than adding shims.

Talking to Bob R it would seem he had the strut plates rotated only 120 degrees to acheive the desired results. With only 3 mounting studs how does one rotate the mounts 180 ? Unless the mounts are swapped side to side or the studs repositioned in the mounts, which is the way I understood it was done. Bob assured me that the studs were not relocated and the mounts were only rotated by one hole = 120 degrees.

Also by rotating the top plates 120 degrees, surely the caster would change as well. Still more

On the 996 GT3, which I think is the same as the 997 in this regard, rotating the strut hats retains caster, but if you use shims you give up caster. So, strut hats rotation is the desired solution IIUC.

Racerron or frayed:

I understand that it does work - just curious if this is what Porsche tells us to do get more camber or if thier recco for more camber is limited to shim usage.
