997 GT3 RS On Track - long!
#46
I was very impressed with the way the car handled something or other with aplomb, not apeach or apear. Seriously, a great and very helpful review. My GT3 has just reached 1000 miles and will get its seats and half cage this week.

03 - I did not try the stiff setting on the wet track. In the wet, softer is better and the track had walls and ditches which I did not want to visit More after next weekend's outing in the dry on a big track.

Thanks, Bob - excellent review.
My car's shifter has loosened up and improved substantially during the initial 2000 miles and the ride is now much less harsh on small bumps as well. The latter, I believe, is due to the well-known friction in the new McPherson struts working itself out as they break in and loosen up.
See you at Tremblant in August.
BTW, what track were you referring to?

Karl - we use a smaller local track at St Eustache for our novice school and that's where I tested the RS for the first time. This weekend I'll run it at Calabogie in the dry which will be a far better test. See you at Tremblant - mine is Silver/Orange. By then it will have a proper track alignment too.

Bob, Thanks for the write up on your impressions. You mentioned that the 997GT3 is better on the street than the 6GT3. On a scale of 1-10 where would you rate the new GT3 vs. the old one as far as a more tolerant suspension. For sake of indexing let's say a 997C2 is a 10. Thanks.

997S PASM normal 10
997 GT3 PASM normal 8
996 GT3 6
997S PASM sport 5
This is road compliance only. For streetability, which takes into account how 'busy' or fidgety the 996 GT3 is, I rank it even with 997S PASM sport. PASM sport is artificially too hard, way too much compression damping in order to tighten up the reflexes of the car at the expense of bump compliance, while the 996 GT3 was a general PITA not so much due to suspension compliance but its suspension idiosyncracies (bump steer and poor path accuracy).
The 997 GT3 is really buttoned down on the street. I wouldn't want it as an only car but it is w/o question accurate, intuitive, and can cover ground with aplomb.

I absolutely concur with Frayed... and in my book, that is what makes the 996GT3 so "raw" and "desireable"...
