I am lucky like Eric and have the plates welded in. My Factory RS cage is on the way and I plan to have it painted (to look better than stock). Looks like 12 bolts and it is in.

Retail is $1,982. I was quoted from $1,982 to $2,775 depending on dealer (I paid a little less than retail). I found a different source through this board and got their last one. They had 3 more on order with ETA of 2nd week of May.

Anyone have a picture of the plate welded in place?

Has anyone installed the real 997 GT3 RS Roll Bar in a 997 that didn't come with the mounting plates?

Given the non-availability of the RS rollbar (or so it seems) I may just go with the 997 TeEquip rollbar. I have seen it in person and it's sturdier than the 996 one and seems "cleaner" than the RS one...and it's readily available. Powder coat it Orange and it should fit right in.

Thoughts anyone?

I would rather a bar that mounts to the shock towers and the floor. It will stiffen the chassis and offer better protection.

Here's a pic of the 997 Tequipment bar while I was installing it. Much cleaner than a 996 bar. The crossbrace is on the back, so more room for the seats. I only to DEs, so bracing not an issue.

It looks like that design wouldn't allow for a correct HANS install (the distance from the shoulder to the cross bar would be too far.)

Crossbar to harness hole in seat (996 GT3 euro) is 10" (seat adjusted for a person 6').

Thanks for posting that photo of the 997 Tequip bar, rmag. I hadn't seen one before; I didn't realize that Porsche had produced an entirely new Tequip bar for the 997 - so many people (including me!) seem to have 996 Tequip bars in their 997s.

You're right, it really is a cleaner, more efficient design than the 996 Tequip bar.
