Default Oil leak on my 997 gt3

Two times now I have noticed a puddle of oil under my 997 gt3.

This last time, I just got back from the track and its a decent amount of oil for sure.

Its about 1 foot in diameter.

I am bringing it into the dealer now to get it checked out.

Yes keep us informed.

Hopefully you do not have any hassles and it is a freak one time event.

We would all hate to think there is an "issue" with the GT3 motor.

oil leaking on a new engine without boost is especially troublesome to me.

Definitely don't offer any information (or admission) about track time.

A foot diameter of oil settled over night on the floor of the garage isn't that much. A lot or a little, thinking about all the options for things to leaking under the newer car, I'd say it's a headache but I don't see it being a major failure. You could even remove the transaxle tray (four screws) and see for yourself what's going on under there. I'm guessing one of the number plumbing fittings for the engine or transaxle is "weeping" under pressure at temperature and probably not doing anything normally.

Well, let's hope it's nothing major. Ask your tech to take some digital photos and email them to you, please. All Porsche techs have cameras and they have computers at their work station these days.

Good luck.

I'm sure it'll be resolved amicably. Got to take the good with the bad, price you pay for having a SY car and its attendant higher hp motor.

It is WAY too late for that.

They all know me there.

Not much to report, the car is waiting to be inspected. They told me they would look at it before EOD, but they must not have gotten to it.

I bought it to BH Porsche.

The Rep, whom I have known for 4 years at least, looked under the car to check the engine, and saw no scrapes or other signs of self inflicted damage, so the track issue isnt likely to come up at this point.

He guess it could be the transmission leaking since its smack in the middle of the car, but he said nothing would be known for sure until they put it on the lift.

Looks like RMS leak according to the rep, but still looking into it.

FYI
I have only 4k miles on the car
I DID do the proper break in (mostly I was good and I never went close to red line)

I have tracked the car 3 times and did hit red line on those days.

More coming at about 1 pm pdt today.

Greg
