Default 996 GT2 or 997 GT3

Given that quite a few rennlisters have gone to a 997 GT3, and still have or had a 996 GT2.

Assuming cost is the same, which car do you prefer and why?

Thanks

GT2

I love turbo boost and the new GT3 is slower then the 996 GT2, even the 996 RS is faster than the 997 GT3.

I think Watt has some input on the matter since he has both. He made a recent post that the new GT3 enters rarified air in his opinion.

Colm too.

997 GT3; just because it looks more like a Carrera; round head lights, more promonent shoulders and wider hip.

However, the sunroof kills it all.

Both Colm and I are from the slow olde farte division of sportscar users... Amir has had both, Garrett, etc from the fast division.. Joshstein can speak for the young farte division.

if you can own a GT2 for a while it's a worthy experience... please check back a year or two when we all waxed estatic and also the discussed the negatives [car has tendency to cause mass murders and accidents, should be banned]

my Gt3 was 120 pccb, and I would take that, as i already did the 2 thing.

If I had a GT2, I wouldn't sell it and I much preferred the 996 GT2 over the 996 GT3, and everytime I considered "droving" the 996 GT3 I ended up in the GT2, more torque and better "drovability".

Then along came the 997 GT3 and I have say I prefer it to the 996 GT2. It is a better chassis with more finely honed responsiveness, wonderful exhaust, and it has a warranty.

The 997 GT3 is leaps and bounds beyond any 911 that has come from Porsche in a long long time (IMO).

It's too early for me to comment since I haven't taken delivery of my RS but I've owned 3 GT2s - I took delivery of my 1st GT2 new in September 2001. For me, the GT2 was the ultimate versatile, practical and usable sports car and I accumulated approximately 15K combined miles over 5.5 years of ownership. Most importantly, the GT2 always pulled at my heartstrings - it was THE car for me regardless of cost. I hope the RS combines the best elements of what I loved about my GT2s and my Stradale and from my brief stint in the GT3 press car it will.

I thought about keeping both for awhile but as Watt said I've done the 2 thing and its time to move on. However at current market prices the 2 is an insane bargain.

I was going to get killed in the GT2! I lost it on the streets once (no damage) and on track several times! The guy that sold it to me, 70+ years old, has a GT3. His only advice was: Son, you need to educate your right toe! He also had a couple of off track excursions.

I have a GT2 and a new RS coming next week. I drove the 996 GT3 extensively and felt it had purer handling than the 2, the 2 is a brute force car. It is and will be one of the most exstreme 911's ever made. It always had my attention and when driven well it was very rewarding. I think the 2 made me a better driver in my race car as well.

I have not yet experienced a 997 GT3 or RS, but soon will. And if it is up to the hype, while slower than my 2, my guess is it will be the replacement car. If not, I will keep the 2 and sell the RS. There is no other car out there short of a Carrerra GT or Enzo that can hang with a slightly modified GT2. It is hands down the current sports car bargain of the decade, but it is not for everyone. If you like to throttle steer you will love it. If you want pure point and shoot handling you need a GT3.

I fit into the mid farte catagory, per Watt's designations!

Watt, I've to confess that your classification of "olde farte", "fast farte", "young farte" represent 99.99% of rennlist, imho. Monty Python style, I could fit in the middle one (I wish).
