e46 csl was very impressive 7:50 at the ring with 3.2 engine

i believe a CSL will come to the US since "raw track" car market is a hot thing these days even lambo jumped on this but i doubt the US version will be as sersiously stripped as the E46 was

i admire the effort BMW put in the CSL and ferrari puts in the stradale and also the new lambo
200lbs weight savings not 44lb!

just imagine if porsche put the same effort

Estimates put the new base for this car in coupe form at $8-10k over the E-46. so call it mid-50's. SMG will no longer be a $2400 option, but standard. The convertible was about $8k over the coupe. Don't know about the M3 sedan as it is rumored to be coming, but hasn't been produced since the E-36 version.

I like the car, but not the Mustang GT style hood bulge. The wheels appear to be similar to the E-46 M3 Competition Package/CSL shape.

This is still called a "Concept" eventhough the car has been photographed everywhere testing in hot and cold climates. The official unveiling was to be later this year (fall). This was a little surprise, but possibly a trial balloon to gauge the public's reactions to various design components, such as the hood bulge, rear bumper etc. More than likely they will refine the looks before the official launch. BMW has been extremely quiet as it relates to their much anticipated and very overdue double clutch tranny. Don't know when they will reveal that or if the new M3 will be the first recipient of the new system.
Pete,

Thanks for the info.

My first post here! Just joined Rennlist. I had a 2001 e46 M3. it was a nice car but heavy and the brakes were not great. I paid over sticker for it in June 2001 as it was the first one at the dealership. All dealers got an Imola Red as their first delivery one - mainly to put in their showrooms. I got a silver one.

Two years ago, I traded that BMW in to get my 3rd Porsche. Its a 2004 40th anniversary edition and I love it. (#22) Its so much lighter and quicker feeling than my M3 was. With 345HP and less weight to carry around, its just much more fun. I now have 16,000 miles on it.

Now, I really want a 997GT3. I am not attracted to the TT's at all. Too heavy and AWD. I think the 997GT3 is where its at. Its awesome.

AFAIK no BMW spokesman confirmed the E92 CSL to date. They've only said they make make another CSL one day. That doesn't mean they're not planning it. But they're not talking about it.

Having sold my CSL just recently (after 3 years of very satisfactory ownership), I don't see enough evidence from BMW to make me wait for another CSL. 997 GT3 seems to be the only car in production that can fill in the E46 CSL's shoes.

Is the 40th Anniversary edition a special lightweight model? How much does it weight?

The 40th anniversary is basically a 2004 996 C2 with some upgrades.. Too many to list out but the highlights (for me) being the X51 package (345HP), suspension, lowered, LSD. I believe it weighs 3075 pounds. I figure it was 200-300 pounds lighter than the M3. Feels it. Nimbler, sportier, faster than my old E46 M3 - which was also a fun car. Had it for 4 years.

So, you don't miss the near 50/50 weight distribution?
