How much for the new V8 M3? I'm guessing around 70K for that thing. I would still take a new 997 GT3 over any BMW anytime of the day.

Fifty Five Thousand Dollars. Car is a bargain for what it is.

Also, reference to a ltw coupe.

I like the new car, but think the powerdome is silly and the front and rear bumpers are overstyled, like something from AC Schnitzer, whose stuff I never liked.

About US$30K price-difference is a lot of money to many of us who can't afford a brandnew GT3.

2nd Edit: Speaking of which; when I told the Porsche rep at Pacific that I look for a GT3 around $75K and he asked me why not the 997. I replied that I can't afford then he was surprised that I can afford the $75K but not the $125K.

I wonder if that is that how Porsche owners think?

C&D said it would be likely around 50 to 55K. I am guessing more like around 65K. After all the last of the E46 M3's were mid to high 50's. You know this new V8 M3 has got to cost more than the last one. I am also not too found of the new look on the BMW's. I have owned 5 BMW's in the past including 2 E30 M3's and a real E36 M3LTW that I purchased brand new from the dealer in Geenwich, CT back in 1996 . So I do like BMW's, just Not the newer ones.

I totally agrees with the weight of the cars keep increasing. And that perhaps give more reason for niche market now dominated by Lotus. At US$60K for a lotus, the lightweight M3 at $90K doesn't sound too bad to me.
At 24 pounds each, they aren't terrible for a 19" wheel.

My 2001 E-46 had a base of $45k. Very well optioned except for distance control put the car at $54k. SMG was not an option in 2001. Over the next 5 years of production the base only went up $1500-1900.

Estimates put the new base for this car in coupe form at $8-10k over the E-46. so call it mid-50's. SMG will no longer be a $2400 option, but standard. The convertible was about $8k over the coupe. Don't know about the M3 sedan as it is rumored to be coming, but hasn't been produced since the E-36 version.

I like the car, but not the Mustang GT style hood bulge. The wheels appear to be similar to the E-46 M3 Competition Package/CSL shape.

This is still called a "Concept" eventhough the car has been photographed everywhere testing in hot and cold climates. The official unveiling was to be later this year (fall). This was a little surprise, but possibly a trial balloon to gauge the public's reactions to various design components, such as the hood bulge, rear bumper etc. More than likely they will refine the looks before the official launch. BMW has been extremely quiet as it relates to their much anticipated and very overdue double clutch tranny. Don't know when they will reveal that or if the new M3 will be the first recipient of the new system.

The E36 M3/4 with S50B32 at 321HP weigh in at 3200 pounds. That thing hauled.

I will so get one if they can make this new one with:

Under 3300 pounds
Real brakes

IMHO it's nice but does nothing for me, like the E30 and E36 did. Now maybe a CSL version...

CSL is definitely planned, but not know whether it will come to US (also, not confident that CSL will be under 3,300 lbs). Definitely doesn't have the Brembo brakes.

You can see from photos that they still use those sliding 1-piston calipers as on the other bimmers...

I could almost guarantee that it won't be anywhere near the 3,000 lbs. mark, it'll be way north of it. Just my opinion.

BMW has a long history of using floating single piston calipers. They suck.

Why in the world does BMW suck so bad when it comes to braking??? Don't they realize that brakes are what stops that hefty pig???

There has to be a "real" reason floating out there somewhere.

good question. i thought it was b/c they are just stubborn and since they always made their brakes in house, they would stick to the design that works fine for a lap or two on the ring and still cost effective. first thing i did or anyone i know that really tracks the M3 is to throw out the buggers and put some brembo's or stoptechs on it. i was amazed at how many csl's at the ring had aftermarket bbk's and suspension. actually i don't recall seeing a single one w/o brembo's or alcons.

as for this concept car. i hope its just that, a concept and bmw is sniffing for all the remarks on the design. i think the base 3-series coupe is the best looking of the bangled crud out there. this car just has an ugly face, ****, hood, and mirrors. change all those and plug a couple holes and I think it will be fairly decent looker. weightwise... oh well just like every modern car...its a fat pig. definite candidate for brake upgrade if anyone even thinks of taking this thing on a track. probably safer as a boulevard cruiser. I'll take a sedan to haul the kid in. just glad i can afford a GT3! you should be inspired by your sports car and look back at it when you walk away... not cringe when you open the garage door and say...oh well...its not that ugly with a couple changes. lol
