Default Weight of US GT3 RS

I brought my "no option" RS to a very reputably shop to get it aligned for the track. With a full tank of fuel, it weighed in at 3,227 pounds (w/ AC, steel brakes, etc.).

So with my "no option" GT-3 with 2/3 tank weighing in at 3230 on corner balance, that sounds about right.

Thanks Darrell.

I was expecting the US-997 GT3 RS weight to be around the number you got. There are around 80 lbs of weight reduced from the US 997 GT3 RS compared to the US 997 GT3. Definitely, good news.

a) DarrellC 997 GT3 RS (no fuel): 3,117 lbs
b) Garret's 997 GT3 (no fuel): 3,209 lbs
c) Mitch's 997 GT3 (no fuel): 3,180 lbs (adjusted due to the 25 lbs Tequipment Rollbar)
d) AWE Tuning's 997 GT3 (no fuel): 3,195 lbs
e) My stock 996 GT3 (no fuel): 3,120 lbs
f) mds's 996 GT3 (no fuel): 3,047 lbs
g) Twisted's 996 GT3 (no fuel): 3064 lbs
h) Marco Polo's 996 GT3 (no fuel): 3009 lbs

a) A/C, Iron rotors, No options
b) Lightweight Flywheel, Adaptative Sport Seats, Sound Package Plus, Xenon, Sport Chrono
c) No options
d) Sport Chrono, Xenons, Sound Package Plus
e) Full Leather, Iron rotors
f) No options. A/C Delete
g) PCCB
h) PCCB and A/C Delete

So with PCCBs and no fuel mine should come in ~ 3075 lbs, right?

Mitch's 997 GT3 was weighed with a Recaro driver's seat, 2/3 of a fuel tank and all the carpet and plastic panels removed from the trunk. I put his estimated car weight given the stock configuration so we can compare apples to apples.

Correct.

With enough fuel for a Time Trial 3,085 lbs (less than two gallons).

Some weight savers, without sacrificing comfort:

- Champion RS98 wheels (-35 lbs) (I would paint them Black)
- Braille Battery (-20 lbs). Keep the car plugged to a battery tender at home
- 996 GT3 Recaro Seats (-50 lbs)

This will put the car under 3,000 lbs with a small fuel load (2,980 lbs).

I would do something with the exhaust, because that's too much weight in the wrong spot, behind the rear axle. Another 45 lbs can be reduced with a lightweight exhaust.

Remove all the trunk liners and plastic panels.

At 2,900 lbs, the 997 GT3 RS has about the same power-to-weight ratio as the 996 GT2, with the advantage of being lighter (braking, turning), closer transmission ratios, more rubber to the ground, improved suspension, and immediate engine response given the lack of Turbo lag plus the LWFW.

no its not.
Porsche prints that the unladen weight of the RS in ROW forum is 1375kg which is 3025. Unladen weight is weight of the car without passengers, with standard equipment and 20L of fuel.

A litre of fuel weighs 1.66lbs. A full tank if 67l. 47L weighs 78lbs. 3227-78lbs equals 3149. 125lbs difference. But Bobby's car still has the heavy US seats.

Why are you being so negtive? Come to think of it, I hope this negative talk about the RS continues that way more people will decide that the RS is not worth the extra money and Porsche won't build any '08's. Therefore making our 07RS's probably the most valuable Porsche.

Actually I have a tequipment roll bar in mine as well so need to account for that. I don't know how much it weighs but I figured it to be a wash for the seat change.

Thanks for the "real life" info Darrell.

It is disappointing that RS is so heavy but at least there are some easy items (such as seats carpet etc.) that remove considerable amount of weight without sacrificing anything.

So that's how you got your car so light. You sit on the floor pan!!!!

I've adjusted the weight for your car. You've answered one question I had. Why is the Sound Package Plus/Sport Chrono car at AWE Tuning lighter than you car?

Looking at the difference between your car and Darrell's car, being both no option 997 GT3 and GT3 RS, those 63 lbs difference can be found in the following items:

- LWFW (close to -20 lbs)
- Decklid with CF wing
- Sunroof
- Bigger rear fenders (add a little more weight)
- thicker rear wheel centers (add a little more weight)
