Default TPMS sensors

Can you order a set of TPMS sensors from the dealer?
Will they work if I put them in a second set of wheels (for the track)? In other words can you have 2 sets of wheels with TPMS to work with the dash display?

YES you can.
A set of valve stems and sensors will cost approx $600
(I found a set on eBay that I got for $355)

Each time te wheels are changed, the re-learning process will have to occur, approx 15-30 mi.

They bolt right in to the Porsche OEM wheels. Once you go with aftermarket wheels, there could be extra work to be done. Plenty of posts on the 997 forum. TireRack sells mounting straps, look for aluminum straps.

you dont need the sensors.
just put the aftermkt track wheels on. the OBC will say TPMS not working. warning light stays on.... just ignore it. i did that with my cayman which had TPMS

How accurate is the tPMS? Wouldn't it be a good idea to have for the track? (Please excuse my ignorance).

you shouldn't rely on tpms for track use.

some cars are fairly accurate. some are not.
i am not joking.
it's useful when you have sudden loss of all pressure on street. sometime yo wont feel it. but on track, if you have sudden loss of pressure, you will know for sure as you will hit something ;-)

but you really should use a good qty tire pressure gauge instead of TPMS.

What's a few dollars for a second set of TPMS senders when tire information is at stake. I'll be doing the same for another set of wheels so that I don't have to worry. Accuracy varies, as said. But it's useful for trend.

if you track the car a lot TPMS doesn't work right, here is why it's irritating for me.

using RA1 for example, my cold pressure is 25-28psi, that gets me to 40 hot. at the end of the day, i am tire and dont fill up the tire. i just want to drive home. on the fwy, the tires are at 30 or so psi. the light will come on to tell you your are too low in pressure. i dont want to be reminded of something i already know. as such, i dont like tpms on my track tire/wheels.

now if you run one set for winter and another for summer, both on street, then i would put TPMS on both sets. i just wont do it on the track tires.

my tpms is pretty accurate as chk'd against two longacre gauges, one analog one digital.

some of my frined's tpms are not so accurate. however, i dont know how they calibrated theirs.

when i swap tires (with tpms) i just reset them by scrolling through obc, like 19" vs 18", summer vs winter, as the menu on obc dictates.

after a few years of racing under the guidance of Rick DeMan and using pyrometry and pressure checking routinely, its gotten so that I can sense a 1/2 pound difference on either car corner and this has directly translated to street applications as well....don't rely on the system on the track; use the standards of pyrometry and gauges.

I'd trash the TPMS for the track wheels until you can talk to somebody who has done it on your specific model. A couple of things that can be "gotchas":

The O rings that seal the stems can react badly to the heat from heavy braking. You can get leaks that are a bitch to find. Band the TP to the wheel if you do use them as mentioned. Use "normal" valves stems on race wheels.

I'm not so sure on the automatic "learning" of the TPMS on your wheels. Usually they have to be reset with a tool. It's an FCC deal to make sure your car doesn't read your neighbors vehicle. In other words, you could go to the effort and the car wouldn't read them anyways.

A temp gauge and good tire presure gauge is the only thing I would trust on the track where a pound or two matters.
