Default mini survey: Painted center consoles: too pimp?

GlennMc's orange center console has got my attention...I think it looks amazing...(I can still change my RS order)....is it too pimped out for the US? and for those who have done this in the past from the factory; how does the finish hold up?

It does look great I think. I specced it on mine (pic below), but this is probably the one thing I would change on my spec. It is hugely sensitive to scratches. I already have an ugly one on the ash-tray cover... I speculate that black is more sensitive than orange though.

I think the Orange center console in an Orange car looks GREAT...adds the appropriate accent to the Black interior. Glad I chose this option too.

Orange on orange is wonderful, not pimp at all, kind of tasteful.

White on white is another story.

I figured the finish would be sensitive. I really like the concept but will be way too **** about it if I know it will easily be scratched....

need more feedback from others who have gone for this option in their cars. gonna post it on the 996 board and see what turns up.

Just left Gordon Ledbetter's he has a red 996 GT3 with a red consol. It looks great.

Somewhere I saw a thread of a guy who paints them after market. I would like to do the Seat backs and the console.

I had mine painted in Basalt Black to match the outside...Tied it all together and looks great.
I would do it again.

Just a bit too pimp for my liking...but if you like it that's all that matters...get it and if anyone you know or don't know for that matter gives you crap about it just simply say "go **** yourself, **********!" That ought to set it straight, it's YOUR car and YOU'LL get however YOU want it...

My RS is Orange / Black / Black so I went Carbon Fiber at center console, Orange shifter lever trim - this is the small piece just below shift boot, and I also went with the Orange door finishers - this is the trim behind the interior door handles. I definately wanted some orange trim inside but I thought the painted center console was too much, plus wanted some carbon inside as well. I also added illuminated carbon RS door sills - compliments the killer carbon rear wing!!!

If you must avoid the fascism of good taste by buying an orange-pimped RS (with no significant performance advantage over a standard stealthy GT3) it does not get much worse by adding extra interior orange bling. Once you take the first step into look-at-me-race-bling, why not go all the way and pimp-up the interior?

I'd prefer to buy a standard GT3 and spend 30k at Manthey Racing making it go faster than an RS.
