Default RS vs GT3 confused about specs and perf figures.

In Europe,

The RS's weight and performance specs are measured stock, that is with the roll bar, extinguisher and carbon seats and steel brakes.

The GT3's weight and performance specs are measured stock, that is with NO rollbar, NO carbon seats, No extinguisher. and steel brakes.

The RS is only .1 seconds quicker to 60.
The only advantage for the RS is the lfw.

So if you live in Europe and you opt for the sport package (which includes at no charge, a roll bar and extinguisher and carbon seats ) wouldn't that make the regular GT3 with the sport package lighter and quicker than the GT3RS.

Tell me I'm wrong.

Here's where you're wrong: The RS includes an array of stickers and a larger rear wing. That makes it faster. Even a Honda Civic driver would be able to explain this to you...duh.

if you try to ratoinalize it, i think GT3 is the better buy.
if you do this emotionally, i think most ppl will take RS.

north american rs has:
- lightweight flywheel
- cf hood
- thin polycarbonate rear glass
- wide-body w/ 34mm wider track
- split rear wishbones enabling more accurate camber adjustment
- larger rear wing w/ more down force
- toned down color schemes
- and DAMN limited production!

The RS is so improved over the regular GT3 with its 44lb less weight (in Euro form), wide body with a wider track (no additional grip), huge wing and 5% worse aerodynamics that it was able to achieve 3 second slower lap times than a regular GT3 in Walter Rohrl's hands. Am I missing something here? Which is the better car?

You are misinformed.

I think this pretty much nails it. The RS is obviously cooler, but the regular GT3 looks like it offers 95% of the driving experience for 20% less money.

Technically you're right, and the GT3 would have slight edge in top speed, too, due to the slightly better aerodynamics of the narrower body. However, any straight line difference between the two would be on paper only...nothing perceptible.

The RS was primarily developed to homologate the suspension and bodywork differences for GT2 racing.

Rear window of thin glass in the US

Not the ROW 3 kg lighter, standard plastic rear screen.

Let's put it this way. If you were offered a gift choice (no cost to you) between a GT3 and the RS...which one would you drive home?

Yes, the price difference is hard to accept on the 2007 997 GT3 RS but some of those features are inportant to many buyers.

* No sunroof, rear wing, etc. will matter, especially for track enthusiasts who will buy a used GT3 RS over a GT3

Now if I wanted a really hot car for street use and weekends fooling around on the track, I'd take a GT3RS and take it to Ruf so that I end up with a 3.8 litre supercharged lightweight (replace all those heavy doors and seats etc) car, couldn't race it, but who cares, I'd be plenty fast in the corners as well as the straightaway. I guess you would call it a GT3 RSK.
