My dealer stated the same number: 588 GT3's but also said about half that in RS's...they got 12-15 GT3 allocations...no word on the how many RS's they'll get...
I am on the list at Park Place Porsche. I spoke to my Sales Rep, and he said I was #10 on the list, and that my build will not begin until July/August. They are the #6 Porsche dealer by sales volume.
I doubt the 997 GT3 limit is that low if they get real orders from real customers unless they are struggling to make the engines. During the tour at Porsche AG in September the guide pointed out that they had separated the 997 GT3 and 997 Turbo engine assembly line from the rest of the engines.
The other point is that they have a lot of happy customers with 996 GT3 cars so how many buyers are there for this 997 version??? Bottom line, the used 996 GT3 fleet is competition.
The 997TT is chewing up a great deal of the engine capacity, and it is more profitable to boot! That is the reason the GT3 was delayed for three months and the RS intro (unless delayed?) is not going to help overall supply either.
I don't think the 996 is competition for the 997, it's more like a tease for the 997 (hopefully!) sunroof and all.

Part of the reason I think the RS will be an 08 model, at least here in NA.
