So with full tank you're about 2835 lbs which in deed is very impressive.
But you know, one can take the same ~400 lbs off of 997 GT3 and then with about 2900 lbs and 415 hp & extra torque surely it will be pretty damn quick car. You're doubtful about 415 hp fiqure but trust me, the real hp in deed is that or higher.

I'm not sure how much weight can be taken out from the 997 GT3 without going with composite body parts. All my car body parts are stock.
As a reference, the 997 GT3 Cup running the Speed WC, with CF fenders, doors and hood, naked interior, no A/C, lightweight rear deck lid, BBS Mag 1-piece wheels with Toyo RA1 hits the scale at 2,800 lbs.
I might actually consider a 997 GT3 RS provided by RUF. The work they have made with the 996 GT3 Mk2 RGT was very impressive. A wide body normally aspirated, with a similar treatment could be phenomenal.
I hope the new 997 GT3 is 35Hp stronger than the 996 GT3. We will have to bring both cars to the dyno to see the difference.

I agree this is indeed strange that the street car would have more HP than the cup car. The cup car exhaust and intake is a lot less restricted but also is optimized for power, not longevity. I would love to see some actual dyno numbers for both.
Press coverage is great news. If the 08 model comes out without a sunroof. I'll happily get one!

cars are checked at porsche when they are test run, they must be within 10% of advertised power, more or less than that and they are torn down, i was told most are right on when they test them with very little variability

FabSpeed has published dyno numbers from the 996 GT3 on the DynaPack that bolts to the rear hubs (courtesy of Powertech in NJ).
A stock 996 GT3 reads 353rwhp up to 364rwhp with FabSpeed catbypass and sport mufflers. On the same dyno, the 993 reads 220-230rwhp and the '99 Carrera 2 close to 250rwhp.
On that same dyno, a 997 GT3 should read 385rwhp.
The stock gears spacing between 3rd and 6th is pretty good. The final gear is too long, that's why I went with a shorter R&P. The lowest gear I use at any of my local track is 3rd, so the shorter R&P does the work for me.
The 997 GT3 has a little bit shorter gears, but it also uses a 1" taller rear tire, so it will suffer from the gears spacing as the 996 GT3.

I would be really pissed if my engine wasn't making the advertised power. 10% below would allow a 343 hp GT3.
