Default what to look for in a battery tender

I don't believe my tender is working any longer. What features do I need on my 08 gt3 with a regular battery. I want to connect directly to the battery to avoid the hassle of getting into a locked fronk, should the battery go bad. Cteck has about 20 options with varying price tags.

TIA,
Dave

i have a 1.5, 3 on cars and 4 amp on the deep cycles “Battery Tender” on all my cars except the LiPO in the RS, in which I’m using a cheaper Motopower Lithium

they all work fine and I have no idea which is better lol

higher amps are for if you have an active ground somewhere in an older car or a light on etc, which my mustang I seem to have a ghost in the machine

I had 2 ctek's stop working after they were about 2 years old. I have been using a Noco Genius 5 for a few years now and have been happy with it.

I have a mixture of one older 2-bank Battery Tender (which seem to work fine on the regular batteries in my late 60's Camaro's),

plus several CTEK's (US 7002) mounted on the garage walls for my 911's,

and then also a Noco Genius 2X2 for my two AGM boat batteries (which I pull out & store on wooden work bench during winter)

I can't remember why I chose the CTEK's that I did, but I don't have AGM in my 911's, so I think I went with a slightly less expensive model US 7002. Been working great for 5 yrs now.

I have a CTEK MXS 5.0. Supports AGM batteries too. Got mine from FCP euro since they have the lifetime replacement warranty and I do find every 3-5 years you may need to replace them. Ferrari, Porsche and many other brands use CTEK and rebrand them. Not saying they’re the best, but the fact these brands trust them, I do too. Granted could be all a marketing play too, but I find they work well. I have the 12V lighter adapter. So I simply run tender wire under door and plug into the footwell. You can also connect pigtails directly to the battery and run it out near the cowl area.

I also use a Deltran Battery Tender brand unit on my BMW when it sits. BMW brands those units under their name. I’ve had two and they’re solid.

I've got NOCOs on two cars (GT3 included) and a Battery Tender on another - they all work, but would probably just get a NOCO again since the older of the two has been good for 6-7 years already. The Genius5 I have for the GT3 can support AGM and regular lead acid, and has adapters for cigarette lighter plugs so I've gone that route - happy with it so far. The only maintainers I've had issues with are Schumacher so would caution against those.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I would have never thought of FC Europe for the warranty but that's the way I went. Thanks Bxstr.

NOCO Genius here too. They look and feel better than Battery Tenders. I've had two of the 4-bank Battery Tenders fail. The 4-bank Noco has been flawless and 4 or 5 years.

Also make sure they have an AGM setting whatever brand you get.

I've got six deltran battery tenders (three on bikes, three on cars), the oldest being about 9 years old. All on lead acid, except one on lithium battery. No problems with any of them.

I have two CTEK MXS 5's that have been good. I also have an older CTEK I bought 15 years ago that that still seems to be doing it's job.
Plugs into the cigarette lighter port and is easy peasy.

Ctek is less than $100 and works perfectly fine. Cheap enough to where if it does fail after a few years you're not breaking the bank for a replacement. I've had 2 for several years on my Porches and previous Ferrari's and never had any issues.

It's so crazy how cheap they have gotten. NOCO has a Genius for $29.95 with AGM settings and battery repair. I've tried battery repair only once, but it didn't work in that case.

I've got a dual Noco tender. Best thing ever. Top quality packaging and even came with different plugs for UK or EU wall sockets. Miles ahead of CTEK as of today.

Just a reminder that newer tenders like the CTEK require the battery to be within a certain voltage range or they will not work.

All you need is a unit that is AGM capable. I have two of these, they work great. First one is probably at least 6 years old, probably 8 or more. It's seen a LOT of use, including bringing back a battery from very low voltage. Actually I used it to finish the job when my full capable (2/10/boost is I think 30 or 50 amp with meter, %, etc) errored out after about 9v.
I have the quick disconnect set up on the M3 since it sits a lot now that I have the GT4.
