The Porsche Classic range includes all historic vehicles which have not been produced in standard production for at least 10 years. In terms of numbers, our range of services covers the 356, 911 F models, G models, 964, 993, 996, 997, as well as the Porsche 914, 924, 928, 944, 959, 968, the Boxster (type 986/987) and the Cayman (type 987). And in words: the Carrera GT and the first-generation Cayenne.
Porsche.com - Don't know how much clearer it needs to be.
Regardless, if I had a .2, I'd rather have the original European radio with a Chinese CarPlay card in it than an entirely new radio fully made in China.

Exactly, I was severely disappointed to find out that the radio is a Chinese model with a Porsche face on it. I installed it anyways, whatcha gonna do at this point. My Car audio days also died but I still have all my old Mcintosh, Audio Control and ADS equipment.

Anyone have experience with this option to allow wireless CarPlay on the existing PCM 3.0 screen? I just got back into the 997.2 game, and it doesn't look PCCM+ will be showing up for 997.2 models any time soon.

Awesome, thanks for the reply. Did you install it yourself or have a shop do it? I don't think I trust my DIY skills to do it, but it would be good to know how much labour it requires to complete.

I don't have an hours breakdown, but I was charged ~$950 to install the Mr 12volt + a backup camera. The $950 included the cost of the camera.

Maybe worth a look!

I am in the same boat but haven’t pulled the trigger yet. The HU seems like a very good option vs mr12v.

for $189 it looks like it’s worth a try
Very small money invested to hopefully get carplay working
I just want the maps really. Can’t imagine I’m going to be banging tunes on the **** speakers when I can listen to the engine or the sound of silence with no kids in the car

Have you seen the Alipay Chineese
unit? It looks OEM and supposedly performs as such
The OEM unit is also made in China And just has a Porsche branding stuck on it
For $189 it’s worth a shot, even as a stop gap until Porsche brings out their own 997.2 unit

Regarding the Android head units for the 997s, I recommend taking the time to read through what is an 85 page discussion on them in the 997 forums. As long as you are ok with all the quirks and issues with the units and the vendors, then have at it. But as I have experienced the installation of such Android units in a Lexus, and the bugginess of the OS, the odd menu layouts, and connectivity issues, some of still I have not been able to sort out, I didn't want to deal with the hassles again. All these Android units are basically the same, like a mini tablet. All that changes is the plastic custom adapter face plate kit that is made to hold it into the dash hole of a car.
Cheap Android Head Unit Review!
So I installed the OEM PCCM+, which although is Android based, and limited in that you can't hack around in the system's OS like you can with the aftermarket units, like adding Netflix and YouTube to the menus, because the operation and menus are locked, but bulletproof enough so the unit doesn't end up crashing, lagging, or getting you stuck somewhere you don't want to be. It's enough to get what you need get done as a head unit in a car. If you wanted to install the current PCCM+ in a 997.2, you actually could. The pin outs are there. Just get the plug adapter for the .2's car's harness plug (probably from AliExpress) and tie it into the corresponding wires coming out of the PCCM unit's harness connector. I traced out all the pin out connections of the PCCM+ last year. And paint the face plate satin black to match your interior if you want, or just wait till the official PCCM+ unit comes out.
