I hit gravel on that road, 5 mph over the limit, flipped and totaled a car, but was OK. Prayers to the family. Could happen to anyone.

This is horrible and to make matters worse, it was a father and son in the car. Truly nightmare situation.

People really do push too hard on these roads and ACH is a very fast and flowing. For those who aren't local, the speed limit is 55mph in most sections so when people are pushing the margin for error is razor thin whether its driver error, mechanical failure, road debris, animal or whatever. I didn't know the driver but i saw his IG. He is a frequent ACH driver and known to be very fast on the crest. All i can hope is that it was quick and painless for both of them. Deepest condolences to their family.

It seems the roof collapsed based on the photos. Would a bolt on roll cage have helped?

I hear that’s a long debate… I believe NHTSA says it’s in the path of the rear crumple zone and without a helmet is technically less safe.

I knew Sonny when he lived in Colorado and had an Audi S4 avant. So sad to see this, especially that his son was in the car with him.

RIP and prayers to the family - heart breaking as I have two young sons that I hope to take for drives one day.

I had a close call a few years ago during the spring where I pushed too hard on a hairpin with cold tires and lack of respect for the road (first time driving it). I was very lucky, as it was very early in the morning with a clear road/no one else involved, no injuries and got a new car out of it, however, the cop said I should thank my lucky stars as a dozen people who crash in the same spot dont make it (impact carries car over barrier and over cliff and then you're done x1000%).

Good reminder to thank god and hug your family as you never know what could happen tomorrow.

All of us know this but you just shouldn't be pushing a car hard on a public road. You don't know what's around the corner, what's down on the road surface, etc. Is there a bicyclist in the middle of the road? A deer? A pothole? Gravel? An oncoming car over the center line? Sonny pushed hard, a few years ago he went off a similar road in his 996 Turbo and totaled it.

I'm going to miss Sonny and it's a tragedy this happened to him and his son. Everyone needs to take what happened here to heart.
