the long hood bug bit me too! I have a 67 sports purpose rally build with a 2.7 RS spec motor. Nothing beats it for fun on the street. The dogleg 901 gearbox is a little sticky when cold but once there’s some heat in thr transmission there’s nothing more rewarding when you get it right. The sounds, the smells, the steering feel all make a drive at even just 5/10 a blast. I still love my 997.1 RS but 9 times out of 10 I’ll reach for the long hood keys for a early morning canyon run
i also love that big garage in a previous post. I have a 3 car garage and have to tighten my sphincters every time I’m backing in a car!

also love the diversity of interests and view points Of the different members here. It’s really amazing what these cars are capable of and in which setting they are in. I was blown away @Spyerx thread on his 964 build! If you guys haven’t seen it or read it, it’s amazing (if you’re curious, it’s here https://rennlist.com/forums/964-foru...ld-thread.html).
So far the 997 gt3 has a healthy ;lead and it looks like the 996 gt3 and the 964 are neck and neck along with many who like the long hood in modified trim. Really interesting to me is the trend for older tech stock or with a restomod flavor over the new stuff.
I have to agree with that. Having had some nice new and newer cars, they are a lot of fun but, I find that there is something missing. I can’t say what it is but I just feel a little like I as the driver am taken out of the picture a little, or the car does everything so well, I don’t know. Anyway, lots of great posts and ideas here.

If anyone in CA with a sorted 964 wants to swap for a few hours for a sorted 997.2 GT3 - I wouldn't mind finding out how they are.
It's the only other 911 that appeals to me as much and I always find myself lusting after them.

Best driver 911?
997rs. I’d have a 40 but too poor.
the 964 i have is close.
but the best also depends on the mood.
i also love my antique.
and the best daily driver is definitely the taycan.

I’m late to this party, but this guy has a great story and an even better collection. Los Angeles local.

This to me is my setup. Both cars follow a "Club Sport" ethos built to drive to the track and back.
The first car is my 1985 RoW Carrera 3.2 its lightly optioned (cloth interior/non Sunroof) with much the desirable high compression 3.2 motors. The car has uprated torsion bars, all the elephant poly bronze bushings, Fiberglass bumpers, and BBS E88 wheels. It is a total riot to drive on the street very light and direct it actually makes my 997 GT3 seem a little heavy on the controls.
Second Car 2007 997.1 GT3 is a great HPDE car. Most importantly the Porsche reliability is unmatched to any other car I have owned in the past.
The 85' I use in the winter here in FL and mountain drives with other Aircooled Enthusiast. The car has no problem driving 12 hours to the smoky mountains a full weekend of driving and driving back home.
I feel many GT owners would definitely appreciate an aircooled car if they have not owned/experienced one already. They are very pure and the limits are a lot lower which makes it quite fun on the street.
