Default Recently installed Dundon Power Package 997.2 GT3 - Feedback inside

Hey Rennlisters I don't post very much but I am an active lurker on the forum but I thought I’d share my recent experience with the Dundon Motorsports power package I recently had installed.

My 997.2 GT3 went into Spec German in Gig Harbor, WA for its yearly track maintenance upkeep. Ended up finding a gear oil cooler and power steering leak. Ended up fixing those items and upgrading to an RS 4.0 clutch and lightweight flywheel, and Dundon Motorsports goodies! Went with the 100mm throttle body, intake runners, harmonic balancer, street headers, muffler deletes, pro-tune, and mini crack pipe!

Took the car to the Ridge on Saturday 1/15 for a shakedown run. The goal was to log some data for Charles and Jamie, compare lap times from last year, and to see what else is broken that needs upgrading. It was misty, wet, cold, and visibility was limited in morning. NT-01's couldn’t get up to full operating temps until part of the afternoon but I was impressed by the results. Compared to last year I am already 7-8 mph faster on the front straight (144 mph) and already shaved 4 seconds off my lap time. (1:51). This was on their base tune. Car ran great with no issues. Thanks Spec German for all the work getting it together. Still running stock suspension, stock wing, Guard LSD, NT-01's, Ferodo DS1.11, Castrol SRF but I think there is still a lot more time to be taken off before adding a wing and upgrading to MCS. (Need re-alignment and a seat, I’m still on sofas). I got home sent the log over the Charles, he made some small tweaks and got me an updated map within a few hours. Overall, Dundon stuff is the real deal, quality is second to none, and their service is great. I've driven 996 GT3's, 991.1 GT3's, 991.1 GT3rs, 991.2 GT3rs, 991 GT2rs cs on the same track and the car feels like a 991.1 GT3rs all the way to redline. Same driver, same car from October except for the Dundon Motorsports stuff added. Also added a new mod too: Ear Plugs… much needed now on track. It’s a little bit louder now.

Last year's best: (65 degree day / dry weather / clear visibility)
1:55.33 Max MPH 135.0
1:54.55 Max MPH 138.8

Jan 15th: (39 degree day / misty/wet weather / low visibility)
1:53.26 Max MPH 143.4
1:53.67 Max MPH 144.0
1:51.70 Max MPH 139.3 (the line was dry)

Thanks for sharing! Was recently at Dundon Motorsports and saw your GT. Glad the mods met your satisfaction. Agreed, DMS is the real deal. Charles is scheduling mine soon.

Great info and nice to see upgrades that actually translate to lower lap times. Question on the exhaust- does the change in valve position actually make any difference noise level wise? Looks like with valves closed, it's still flowing from the cat into the outlet pipe, albeit in a less direct route. I'm sure it changes the tone, but is the noise level reduced at all?

Thanks.

Aside from data, did you yourself feel a difference in the powerband? Butt dyno analysis.

As for your future mods, cup wing will make a massive difference. Obviously paired with the suspension.

Great question, the only difference imo is on idle to 3000 rpms. Assuming with the valves open is 100%, with them closed is at 85-90% (barely noticeable unless you point it out and carefully listen)

For me butt dyno is very subjective since i've been driving around my 944 for a bit so there's that, plus the placebo effect of the new louder tone. However, there is definitely a difference mid range between 3000-5000 rpm, power comes early and carries it all the way to redline. On the track i've noticed it as well coming out of a few turns I would have power instantly instead of waiting for a split second for it to build or think about downshifting. If you've ever been to the Ridge, 8a and 12 is where i've noticed big difference in power. 8a i can keep it in gear and have the power while keeping the car balanced, I don't have to downshift and potentially upset the car. Between 11-12 i'm actually to bouncing it off the limiter before i wasn't. With the new mods i have to figure out 12 again since i'm on the limiter coming into it. Next time i'm going to try to short shift and carry the momentum through the turn. On the street from a rolling stop, it's very easy to spin on 1st and 2nd now, have to ease onto it, but again this is dependent on tires and weather too. So I don't think that counts.

Can certainly vouch for the sound of this thing. I could hear him 'collecting data' for Dundon across 520 from about 2 miles away. I couldn't believe what I was hearing and immediately thought "that's a Mezger" as my wife rolled over and said "what the f are you on about?"... it was 8am on a Saturday morning. What a way to start your day. Hope to run into you someday. Love seeing the data too, thats real passion right there.

Finally had a chance to load a video. This was the 1:53 run in the wet/fog. Unfortunately my GoPro battery died after this session so I need to figure that out. Had it charged all night too, now it's not holding a charge.

That fog looks horrifying going down the front straight!

I love your car … and I love that you are using it the way it was built to be used

Awesome. You feel like the $ / HP proposition was worth it? I’ve debated that vs just tune + nearly straight pipes.
