Today I went and got an oil change and brake flush just to have a record to be honest. Even thought I could’ve done it myself.

oil change $480 and brake flush $250.

total cost: $803.73 with tax

ended up buying a few oil filter and crush washer for future use.

If you get the Carfax app for your phone you can enter all your DIY maintenance for the record-

IMHO I personally, want to see the Porsche receipts for oil change and service. I think in the long run a clear chain of service from a Porsche dealer will be worth more than at home service. With a expensive car like this are you trying to save $200 every year? I’m sure there are other ways to pinch a few penny’s. I paid the $490 for a oil change on my RS and think it was worth it long term.

my problem trusting this is that you can enter the maintenance but not actually do it. Great for tracking it but not so good for the next guy to trust.

I rather take my car to an independent and not a stealership. I get more personalized and professional service from a independent than a stealership. Oftentimes, you get apprentices changing your oil at a stealership. Find yourself an independent shop that works on the brand and start a good relationship with them.

Agree with this. My plan is to do the oil changes myself(keeping receipts of course), then have indy do everything else.

I do as much of my own maintenance as possible on all my cars and motorcycles since I was 16. I've also seen shops try to "crack the center locks" open with the car on the ground(idiots)shops that overfill or underfill oil(many threads on rennlist)there's a lot of incompetence out there-
I just fixed a bizarre malfunction with the control-valve which opens and closes the disc valve on the transmission. Many dealers mis-diagnosed this at first, 10 years ago when it first happened to some cars. The disc valve was stuck open, coolant runs trough to cool the transmission but with a cold car the disc valve is supposed to be closed until the car warms up. My car was taking 25 minutes to reach operating temperature(oil temp too)
If I had taken the car to a dealer it might have been fixed, probably $1000 for repairs and a part that cost $25-$45.
991 cars had to have all or some of their 8 control-valves replaced under warranty. 997 cars don't seem to have the issue, except I did with the one that malfunctioned. IF a good honest shop diagnosed it correctly right away, it still might have taken 2-4 hours at their labor rate-so if you notice your car taking too long to warm up, it just might be a dead control-valve.

Durametric was worthless in diagnosing this, I did it the old fashioned way, investigating:

Everything back to normal. And I always know I put 9.5 qts when my oil is changed too

I do the oil and other fluid changes myself on all my vehicles, not because I am cheap but because I know that it is done correctly. Regarding oil and transaxle changes, I let the old stuff drain overnight, not just for 30 minutes. And I do keep written records.

Am I qualified? During my 6 year stint in the Army, my job was aircraft maintenance before I became a Crew Chief. And I've self-maintained every Porsche that I've had since my first one in 1972.

However, I do use a good independent Porsche-focused shop for the more major stuff. When I lived in the Atlanta area, Goldcrest Motorsports was the only shop that I would allow to work on my GT3,
