Default throttle mapping in sport mode

I have an 08 GT3 that is replacing an 08 c2s. The throttle mapping difference between having the sport mode on and then off was a lot more noticeable in my c2s than it is in my gt3. In fact, I really don't notice it in the GT3. My question is do you notice a difference in throttle response when turning on Sport mode in a 997.1 GT3. I'm wondering if some kind of Cobb type "tune" may have been done to this car. I have a lot of maintenance records but nothing pointing to this.

Thanks,
Dave

I've never noticed a difference between sport mode on or off. When I had a stock exhaust and then center delete, all I noticed is the valves opening and closing. Since installing the full exhaust system, I notice nothing.

that button on our cars is useless... especially if you are like me, running a center exhaust bypass and have the exhaust flap actuator turned off (so the flaps are always in Formula 1 sound mode )

it uses a more aggressive ign and throttle map. it's not just exhaust valves

I currently have both a C2S and a 997 GT3/RS. The difference is much greater in terms of throttle response in the C2S from normal to sport vs a GT3. If I’m accelerating in the C2S at say quarter or half throttle and I turn off sport mode, there is a noticeable drop in acceleration as the throttle sharpness has been reduced. Even my passenger notices it. Not so with the GT3.

Hi Dave,
The pic above is from the Technical Information booklet for the 997.1 GT3.

Unfortunately, I don’t have the 997.1 Carrera Technical Information booklet but I do have the one for the .2. Posting info on the sport and sport plus button for that below. But it does mention Tiptronic S in the top section so It’s almost as if they’re talking about the 997.1 in the first section. So some of it may be applicable.

As a side note, I also agree that I don’t notice much if any throttle change in my GT3. Only the exhaust valve operation. 997.2 C2S was much more noticeable.

Joe

So from what I read here, it looks like all that performance gain is from the exhaust valves opening. If one no longer has the valves, then what good is the button. I can't tell one bit of difference between the two.

On my RS4, the sport button opens the valves and is also supposed to change mapping. On that car, I can feel that its' a little more jerky in 1st gear when you're on and off the gas.

My .1 is bone stock except for a Fabspeed center delete. In Sport mode my butt dyno can't tell any difference. Maybe it is due to that epic "ripping canvas" exhaust sound at 4K rpm and beyond.

I ran it with the unplugged engine compartment connector for 2 weeks but I felt that it was too loud for cruising through the neighborhood at 6:15 AM on my way to the weekly Saturday morning PCA breakfast. The guys there sure noticed the sound difference with the connector unplugged!
