ahh, thank you for clarifying!!

and thanks to LJ & Dan for chiming back in again as well.

I just went back to my notes, and gimminy christmas all these tires have really gone up in price!! ... at the end of the day, for all 4 tires, the cost side of the equation is not as much a factor in decision.

... but yea, 2 yrs ago my wife & I went on a 3-day road trip up through the west VA & PA mountains, staying at B&B's,.. and the last day saw lots of rain all the way home. Those Cup2's were not fun that day. Don't really wish to repeat that.

Michelin Cup 2 N0, stock size. No wheel protector on the sidewall. Nice and square. I will buy them again.

Possibly you don't need a 315 to achieve the width you are going after. I was shocked at how close my 964 Turbo new PS4S 285/30R18 was, when held up (end to end) against the 305/30R19 Cup2 width on my GT3.
Due to the tremendous amount of section & tread width Michelin is building into these PS4S tires,... you may get what you are looking for in the PS4S 295/30R18.

Check out the spec differences between whatever 315 tire you were considering, against that tire. It may be close to what you are looking for.
Interesting. I'd never considered doing a comparison of width between 295, 305, and 315. I had just made the assumption that for the 12.5 inch wide wheel I needed the wider tire. I'll report back. Thanks Steve.

We did a lot of research before setting out on One Lap in 2019. The tire has to be at least 200 tw and you have to run 3,500 transit miles, 6 tracks, an autocross, a wet and dry skidpad, and a drag strip without changing tires. We ran PS4S. They are great in the rain, which we saw a fair amount of. In 2021, we switched to GY SC3. They are not as good in the rain if it is below 40 degrees, but they are quicker when it isn’t cold and wet. They do not get greasy in the heat like PS4S. A Camaro running the SC3 set a all time One Lap dry skid pad record on the GYs this past year. I think we were around 7th in that skid pad. For reference, we finished 6th overall in ‘19 and 13th overall in ‘21. They were a bunch of 700hp cars that came to play in ‘21, ZR1, 2 Mustang GT500, 4 GT2 RS, 720s, etc.

Burren, Did you ever make a decision on the size you want to get? ... Have you made a purchase yet, & if so, did you get the PS4S?

Fantastic tire for all around use and no chance of me exceeding their limit on the street or canyons etc. Amazing wet grip.

Put 10k miles on my GT4 with PS4S. That thing saw light snow too on a few road trips and they were also great.

Running Cup2s on some previous cars of mine always felt like a waste without track time.

Not sure if it matters to you, but the C2 as a nicer looking sidewall by comparison. But tire aesthetics are personal preference.
Thanks for this update ^^^ @ljmartyre

... I was looking at both sets of tires in my garage again last night (PS4S on my1991 964 Turbo in 285/30 on 10.5" rim),... and my .2 GT3 with 305/30 Cup 2's on 12" rim),.... and for the PS4S in stock size 305/30 on 12" rim, it previously made me worried that it might rub the outer fender lip on full compression. But since you have run over 8k miles on yours, I now have confidence. Thank you.

In the end, aesthetics play a role, but a minimal one when I factor in how important performance is for my Mtn backroad (long weekends) driving.

Thanks again LJ.

Thanks for this too @wahoo55 ... This is a perfect description of the kind of conditions I find myself in.

... just wish Michelin had a N spec choice without the rim bead protector in that PS4S.

Hi Steve,

Not yet. Life got in the way, of course. With a house move coming up I got distracted, but I'm still looking to check what you had mentioned on the 295, because I really like my 18in wheels.

Ahh, ok. I did not know you were running 18's. That could make a difference too.
