Going from 991 GT3 to 997 GT3 or RS?

Going from 991 GT3 to 997 GT3 or RS?
Maybe I'm just bored but I've been toying with the idea of getting rid of my touring for an RS. Two entirely different cars, I know. I'm curious if anyone here has made the switch, if so why?

997 gt3 or gt3rs over any 991. Much more enjoyable driving experience and perfect street/track car

My advice? Go drive one, and drive it hard. You'll know soon enough that if you let the 7.2 RS in, it's like let in a stray dog into your house. There's no turning back, no reversal of time, just the realization that the time has come to embrace a true thoroughbred Porsche.
My 2 cents worth...

That’s the problem I’m having. Shifter is buttery smooth. The clutch is perfect for everyday driving. I have the complete dundon setup (with the plenum) and there is plenty of power, perhaps too much. The car is just right... there’s nothing edgy about it.
I’ve driven the RS a few times prior to owning my touring and I loved it coming from a 997gts. Will drive it again now and see if the spark is still there

I started with a GT3 Touring, put on 5500 miles, multiple track days, and Smoky Mountain Drives. Went to a GT3 RS 4,000 miles, Smoky Mountain drives and 10+ track days. GT2 RS currently. Currently, picked up this year, I also have a 997.1 RS and could not be more thrilled. For the road, best driving engagement and experience, and non track prefer the 997 RS. 90% on here likely prefer the 997.2 RS, I went with the .1RS because its slower better for the road, a more comfortable car for the road, and I love the 3.6 motor sound. If you can, recommend two cars because they drive very different and especially if you track, definitely nice to have the 991.
By they way, there is a thread on the 991 forum, where guys leave 991.2 RS for 997 RS and are quite pleased. For road use older is better in my opinion unless daily driving it. I will not sell my 07 RS, and will likely always have something more current with PDK for track use.

It's the "but" that gets us in the end. That seed of doubt that nags at us, that reminds us our quest for perfection...

997.2 RS - analog, rewarding, engaging, perfect drivetrain, feels smaller / lighter / more nimble. I kept my aqua blue all these years, still my favorite car.
I'm in the minority - but IMO the clutch in the touring is garbage. Too light, slippy, and sloppy. Huge mistake for Porsche.
I did 39k mies in a 2010 GT3, and a bunch in my 7.2 RS- not one issue with the clutch, ever. Perfection.

I have gone the other way, from older AC and turbo 911’s. So the .2 RS has more creature comforts than I am used to....
Drive it and see, your Touring sounds pretty bad ***, but I really enjoy the analog feel of the 997.

Mr JWW did a nice comparo a couple days ago on Youtube between the 991.2 GT3 and 7.2 RS. I think he did a terrific job outlining the similarities and differences. Both great cars. It just depends what you want/like.

It’s the little nuances. The weight of the shifter and clutch pedal. The steering feedback/feel. The sounds the car makes... The 997 RS is so raw. It really makes you work for it every drive. The 991 GT cars have always felt a bit too easy for me, but without a doubt are much much quicker.

997 RS all the way....
If your car wasn’t a weekend car, I’d tell you to reconsider. But as a weekend car you drive here and there, it’s no question.
I had a friend give me the keys for a 991.2 RS with WP. I’ll be honest, taking that thing on a highway on-ramp was crazy fast. The 1-2 shift was violent and eye popping. But literally 2 hours later, I was so bored. Artificial crackling and overrun from exhaust, larger proportions of the vehicle, electric steering, etc etc. Just a lack of a visceral feel that my 997.2 RS exhibited.
The 997 RS is the pinnacle of 911 lineup.
