I think each (997.2RS and 991.2 GT3) has its own thrills. The recent comparison is fairly good (although the video was interminably long to me).

the newer is noted to be bigger but I have failed to see a noticeable difference. Some of the things not mentioned are: the smaller steering in the 991.2 makes an unexpectedly big difference in how it feels during driving. The LWBS are also better in the newer one (IMO).

I absolutely love threads like this, and appreciate everyone's relevant input too. For me the 997 era of the 911 is the one that speaks to me the loudest overall. I do like the newer cars, but they are just too polished, too eager to do things for you. I want some character with my Porsche driving experience, but I also like their level of overall content and performance from the 997 era. For me the GT cars from the 997 era will always stand the test of time, whereas I personally feel like the 991+ generation are more mass produced and polished, and still being improved upon each year. 997 is an end of an era car in many ways, and just the right blend of attributes for me, similar in ways to other other Porsche enthusiasts would view the 993 for air cooled performance. Granted I'm not the guy who always wants the latest and greatest stuff either, and am OK with that.

I love them so much, I bought more than one of them! I'm also the kind of person who drives his newly acquired 997.1 GT2 across the country, and did.

I love threads like this too.

I have 991.1 GT3RS 4 months, first RS over 5 years since selling 997.2 GT3RS.

I really enjoy 991, enjoy PDK, and car has basically become DD. Also drop dead gorgeous. But over those 5 years missed my 997, and still miss it even with 991 in garage.

So now shopping for another 997.2 GT3RS. This is to keep 991 company, not replace it.

If a 991.2 GT3 with Dundon bits doesn't make you happy, nothing will.

There is a lot of truth to that statement, even as someone partial to the 997 line.

None of the shortcomings for me on the 991.2 are power or sound related.

Yep. That's why in a few short weeks I should be back in the 997 lineup

My 2c worth ... newer cars are superb, yet too perfect. Too refined, too “augmented”, too sterile. You take an analog system, you add digital augmentation, so you can give it an analog feeling. You’re partially driving a simulation, a digital interpretation of the analog world. Newer cars are also physically much larger, and they are so planted, it makes little difference whether you’re driving at 50 or 90, the adhesion limits are so high and the torque vectoring and rear steering and all the fuzzy logic dynamic control so real time, that you can’t engage and enjoy them as much As they are always looking after you. It’s the microwave dinner you stick in the oven and dial the time vs going to the market to buy the ingredients and cook it from scratch...

Personally, having owned and driven various generations of Porsches, like many of you, I would take a well set up 993 and 997 over anything else, I would take 997.1 or 2 GT3 for pure driving fun, but for limited time duration, after a couple of hours they can get very tiring, but that’s the point, to engage you, and drain you, and to have character faults and pendulous backsides. For occasional analog perfection I would go 997 gt3, for an everyday performance driver, to include canyons and weekend trips I would go 991 turbo, not gt3.

I agree with much of this. My 991.1 GT3 was somewhat boring to drive compared to my 964 and 997.1 GT3 RS. Sold the 991 GT3. I'm considering a 991.1 GT3 RS but ONLY if I put a manual box in it

yeah, i'm very familiar with that thread. shops not too far from me. when the time comes i'll be calling them to discuss cost and transmission availability. (i seem to remember them posting that porsche may not sell them anymore trans when they found out what they were doing with it)

i wish the op would give an update as to how its holding up, etc
